My ex-neighbor had a computer problem and wanted me to take a look, that was this morning.
Her family photo desktop background was replaced by a RED fullscreen DeathSkull VIRUS warning. Every minute a new horrible virus warning popped up. Most of her desktop icons disappeared. She could not access much of the web, she could not get emails, she could only get IM messages.
Trend Micro could not find the virus or the 30+ viri that this super duper program was constantly warning her about.
But then, the Trend Micro program could not update either.
The trojan is called XP 2008 Antivirus. And it's NASTY!!!
IT has taken over her system as Administrator, so she cannot use the taskmanager, she cannot change desktop properties, she cannot search or find files, run regedit...etc etc. This is the most well protected virus I have ever seen.

I grew up in a small town of about 4000 people. Far from any big city and certainly FAR FAR from any organized racing. Got my early exposure to racing from Sports Illustrated and various other car magazines at the public Library.
I'm guessing that in 1972 I saw a Popular Mechanics magazine or something similar that had a very unique Indy Car with dihedral or V shaped wings on the nose and just behind the driver.
Originally this Vels-Parnelli Jones car had no traditional rear wing, but the drivers hated the V and eventually the dihedrals were cut off and a more normal flat wing was installed. I've only been able to find this one photo of the car. Would anyone else have any ideas where to look for more pictures of this unique part of racing history?
btw..who is all in this picture? Mario, Al Sr, (check out his pants!)

Have any of the rFactor mods made attempts at recreating a fuel mapping function? I've gotten a simple version figured out, but I was hoping perhaps somebody has come up with something more elegant. I thought I read one of the F1 mods tried a form of Fuel Mapping, but I haven't found the thread to verify it.

I wasn't even watching TV, I was just in the house for a moment while I was taking off the snow tires and putting on my very well worn Goodyears.(very shabby on the outside shoulder to boot!)
Any how its an animated commercial in the style of Pixar. It shows an M&M candy sitting on a park bench. He's staring at a squirrel who is starring back at him. Suddenly there are many many more squirrels...and a narrator says...
Every M&M candy should not forget, there could be a Peanut in side. The last scene of this very short comercial is a Squirrel LUNGING at the M&M. GRUESOME! I loved it!
ANyone looked into the new service from Verizon? Fios?
Upload speeds dwarf anything DSL or cable have available.
One package, has 15mbs down and 15mbs up. It is not yet available in my area, and I don't have a land line any more, so I wonder how or when it will make it to the backwater of Spokane.
If somebody gets access to this, could they please leave a sim-racer's point of view/review?
thanks

Speed channel had an old Kirk Douglass movie on today. Thank Goodness for Tivo\DVRs.(I could skip all the romance and chit-chat.) It was called The RAcers. Early 50's Racing in Europe with the Alfa Romeo Team. REALLY REALLY corny. But...they had plenty of helicopter shot race footage of places like Rouen, Spa, Le Mans, Nordschleiffe. I thought I was watching GPL. Sure the cars were from an earlier era, but the history captured in those aerial shots. Magnificent.
I have always had a Geek type fandom of Military weapons. Especially WWII. I could spot a P-51a vs a P-51d, knew the Germans and Japanese had the biggest guns on their Battleships and all sorts of useless trivia about the era.
I would watch war movies critique them on whether they used actual Vintage hardware or stuck Vietnam era tanks in their battle scenes. Patton was an amazing film, but it used fairly recent Armor/Tanks from the US arsenal to stand in for both American and German tanks.
Another older movie was the Battle of the Bulge. It was one of those mega movies that had at least a dozen Hollywood stars. AND, it had tanks that at least looked like German Panzers. But one of the Stars, Telly Savales, played an American Tanker and for some reason they gave him this TOY TANK. They had M4 Shermans in the film, they had Tiger and Panthers...b [... more]
I have 4 races on my DVR from this past weekend. I watched the first lap of the F1 race, watched the first few laps from the Champcar race, then watched some of the Grand Am DP cars. But only when I fired up the ALMS event at Mosport Canada did I really get jazzed.
The American P2 class is becoming really super competitive. Watching Marino Franchitti in an Acura chase the Penske Porsche Spyder early in the race and do so in heavy heavy traffic, and then watching The Dyson Porsche struggle to pass the MAZDA...yes...the MAZDA(ok AER turbo...but finally after two or three seasons of mediocrity, the BK team finally has some OOOMPH! in their powerplant)
At Mosport, I was amazed at how many corners the P2 cars took at full speed, That NASTY turn 2 that falls away...I've never never never, in any sim or mod, been able to take that corner flat, but the In-car [... more]
I saw the new Acura Lola of Adrian Hernandez and it frankly is very underwhelming.

I judge most paint-jobs thru a television so what the car really looks like may not be what I see every week, but silver and a low contrast blue do NOT really jump off the screen. I have complained about The various Audi R8 colors (or Colours for my Euro pals) for years as well. Except for the Croc car in Aussie-land for the Milenium race and the Champion team colors, the Audi's have been a boring silver with just a few hints of color.
On the same alms.com home page is a thumbnail of an older car, the Autocon Lola that uses almost the same colors as the Hernandez/Lowes Lola and it JUMPS out at you.
Similarly, All black cars. I was stunned when the all blac [... more]
I hope everyone has a happy new year. My family is not much on celebrating such dates...too tired to stay up most nights and too broke to hit the bars/parties.
But we did have some excitement at about 3am on Jan. 1st.
Apprently a couple was sitting in a car (3am about 20 degrees F) and then somebody else drove by and shot them...Several bullets entered the car, the man was struck once the woman twice. I suspect somebody either was getting it on with somebody else's woman or they were waiting for a drug sale.
I live in a fairly quiet neighborhood, directly across from a school. Not the sort of place to log the first shooting of the year for Spokane Washington.
Anyhow, my wife and son probably heard the shooting, I only woke up when the 4 or 5 cop cars showed up and thier flashing lights came thru my very expensive but poorly made window blind [... more]
