My brilliant christmas gift!
Dec 24, 2008

Well, its been a great christmas so far, with one exciting present...

A ride in a two seater indy-car for 10 laps around indianapolis motor speedway! Choice of drivers, as well!

Should be great fun, it may not be formula 1, but indycar is a close second for open wheel!

I'll let you know how it goes coming this march!

I think It's time to come back...
Dec 05, 2008

Well guys, It's been a long break... 2 months? 3 months? I can't remember.

Either way, I'm back in the cockpit tonight trying out some different sim's. I feel like i'm coming out of retirement :-)

I must admit i'm slightly worried however.. I don't feel like i'll be as quick as I used to be. We'll have to see how well I adapt...

See you all on track hopefully! :-)

Well guys...
Oct 11, 2008

I've been ridiculously busy recently.
I recently bought a firewire mixer and have been recording my band's music almost exclusively. Finishing up senior year is taking its toll on me as well. I've had little extra time to spare for sim-racing but I shall return when all gets back to normal.

Just wanted to let you all know, in case you wondered where I've been...

Go TST!

Andrew

All I can do is stare....
Aug 13, 2008

It's Ferrari's new concept car, the "California".

It's the most beautiful car I've ever seen to this day.

It's got little bits that remind me of aston's and jag's.

mann.................

Not sure if this is good or bad...
Aug 22, 2008

Well, I found out today that I share a birthday with both:

1. Chuck Norris
2. Osama Bin laden...

So I feel slightly strange now. But it sounds like a pretty eventful day, march 10th...

Just thought I'd share :-)

Rfactor won't start randomly?! (FIXED)
Jun 24, 2008

I'm getting frustrated.

Rfactor crashes with the "this program has encountered an error and needs to close" in XP, starting today.

I have made literally no changes to the system since I last played GTR2. Rfactor worked fine several days ago, but crashes about the time you would expect an intro movie to come up.

I've tried restarting the computer, changing resolution in the Rfactor config, but I can't find anything that works.

The error is so arbitrary that I have no idea where to start looking for a fix.

Anyone have any ideas?
They would be greatly appreciated.

File deleted, but no free space freed up?
May 23, 2008

Not sure what happened. Here's how the story goes:

Went to delete a tivo of FiaGT Monza (Filesize 2GB). Opened recycle bin to delete the file from recycle bin and free up space.
Pressed delete in vista, nothing happened. Pushed it again... and again... and nothing happened. All the sudden a box pops up saying "confirm delete?" and I pushed yes. I then see a progress bar displaying the deletion of the file. While the progress bar is moving, another box saying "confirm delete?" (of the same file) comes up. I push no.

Go back to find that the file is gone, but no space was freed.

What can i do?

More Car Setup Questions...
May 22, 2008

I've been re-learning a lot of my setup tweaking technique, and I've come to find that a lot of the information I thought I understood is incorrect.

After reading over the VindexWorks/Race2play articles on setup tweaking I have a few questions...

1. Toe in is used to help straight line stability and corner entry correct? I've always dialed in more negative front toe-in for this reason. Am I right in doing so?

2. Camber is used to help balance tire temperatures correct? Is that its only purpose as far as setup tweaking goes? I've always adjusted camber to help "widen" the range of temperature between the outside and inside of a tire.

3. Anti roll bar (yes i'm asking again) is mainly used in the slower turns, where mechanical grip is mostly active correct?

4. Will I ever get a big benefit from adjusting Damper settings?

5. Caster dials in more negative camber, and h [... more]

Possible to run application on second monitor without CTD?
May 19, 2008

Many times I've wanted to run motec, or some other program on a second monitor while testing/racing. This would be okay for viewing, but if you clicked anything on the second monitor, it would instantly minimize the game and would sometimes cause a CTD.

Is there any way to allow control of a secondary monitor program, without affecting the game?

Thanks

Projector Vs TV for sim racing
May 01, 2008

I've been looking around for an upgrade to my 19" dell ultrasharp monitor. I've liked the idea of a DLP projector for some time, but am now also considering a tv instead. My budget runs at about $1200.

With a resolution of 1280x1024 (or 1280x800) which is the better way to go? Projectors offer a bigger picture (and slightly better price) but have problems in sunlight and accumlate high bulb cost.

LCD Televisions are smaller (unless you have the cash) and in most cases, take up more room. I've heard televisions don't look very good when used as computer monitors.

For sim racing, which would be the better way to go?

Thanks
