Thanks to the gallant Tim managed to run a race fit Z type at Putnam. Was a good race, clean and competitive. I do love the rule that the slowbies like me can and must hold their racing line and it's up to the rest of the pack to find a suitable overtaking opportunity. Noticed a fair number of much faster drivers (everyone else) who will come right past, get into an impossible line and then spin off, only to be retaken by slow old me - yes they'll get me back a few turns later, but watching the replays it is interesting that the pressure is often on them rather than the converse.
Very enjoyable, just wish I didn't have so much to learn in so short a time. Hope their will always be a place for the beginners and plain old uncompetitive.
Despite the non-event at Putnam I did manage to run in the nGT fun-run at Estoril for a one hour race, completing a very imperfect 29 laps finishing at the back of the pack.
Despite the placement I was actually ecstatic about just the technology working, and that I did have the power of concentration to keep it together for one hour, including a refuelling stop. It's all good new experience, but was a bit of a white knuckle as I'd only done about 20 laps at Estoril and it's quite a tricky circuit - at least it was for me.
Lesson will be to do more pre race practicing, learn to be more consistent and avoid running off the track like the plague
Total disaster - had the red faced moment of realising during practise that I had the wrong type of car - needed Z type upgrade as the sys kept reminding me. Problem was this was my first rFactor race and couldn't figure out two key things
1) How to type back messages on chat to tell the poor sys that I did realise I was in the wrong car and
2) Couldn't get the server to accept I'd bought the Z upgrade
Logged in 2 times ( at least I was persistent!) and embarassment finally won over, thought it better to leave the race to start and I'd go home to lick my newbie wounds.
