Potential Monster Event
Aug 26, 2008

Discussions are about to get started for what will hopefully be a be all end all plate race involving R2P, Greatlakesracing, and Draftmasters using Arca. The big shots of the 3 will discussing details of the event directly. The general or overall idea is to put together a large large field with some sort of prize. There is also some contemplation of making it a race for charity and getting it televised on the internet.

While the details are being ironed out, HRH has cleared me to indicate that if anyone is interested in checking out greatlakes, any R2P member is more than welcome to come and run there to get a sense of things. There is an overlap of some greatlakes and draftmasters members so everyone can get a flavor of the other.

Greatlakes' server is up 24/7 and its TS is 207.179.246.226.

The only headsup is that for TS, you gotta be over 18. The language can get [... more]

Belated Wishes to Todd
Jul 23, 2008

We all screwed up big time. The man behind the curtain, who does more work than anyone except Tim realizes, had his birthday on July 2.

Please join me in wishing this gentleman a hearty and retroactive happy birthday to Mr. Todd Weiss.

Happy birthday, Todd!

AUTOMOTIVE

The last video game I mastered was Pong, which should give you an idea of
how sophisticated and cutting-edge I am when it comes to that world. That
said, there was an exhibit at the Performance Racing Industry trade show,
held last weekend at the Orange County Convention Center, that may require
some personal investment.

First, to set the stage: The Performance Racing Industry show is open only
to the trade, drawing 45,000 attendees from around the world. As you would
suspect, the vast majority of equipment on display was for hard-core
racers -- engines, tires, wheels, suspension components, bodies . You could
easily have built a complete race car by touring the show with a very large
shopping cart.

One smallish exhibit seemed to be drawi [... more]

No Longer Has A Purpose
Mar 18, 2008

Sim racing and all that goes with it no longer appeals to my better traits. In fact, it seems to only appeal to my meaner ones. This is not a problem for myself but evidently it is for some of the more sensitive ones here. I can no longer be involved in any way any longer. The racing has not been enjoyable and I cannot justify spending precious time and resources on platforms that might or might not work on a modern machine which is used only for racing. Further, when I have to take chastisement from a group of folks for whom I have always made my time, talent, and money available in exceedingly generous amounts, it is clear that there is no room for me in it. So, between a lack of racing joy, hit or miss platforms, and getting spanked by people for whom I have no use and respect because I refused to roll over and play dead like a good little puppy, I no longer want to [... more]

S6 WrapUp
Dec 30, 2007

Seems to be that time to close the file on S6.

Very impressed by Ground Effects Racing, or as Enis renamed us Geriatric Racing, even though I am not qualified to change the tires of Craig, Steve, or Jeff much less race with them. What an astounding campaign by those 3. Continual wins or podiums by those three. A major learning experience for me to see the amount of preparation those three studs put in to get ready for a race. The only thing I regret about S6 was failing to ask Ray G to join us. I misunderstood when his deployment started and he was left on his own. I privately apologized to Ray for that and I do so publicly now. Sorry Ray; I owe you one.

Personally, disappointed with my own season with a horrifying 3 DNFs even though the races which I finished resulted in good solid finishes. I know that the series was a pain for HRH to admin and I understand his rea [... more]

Work In Progress/Ambulance Chasing

Just in case you've ever punched my firm's name under the sponsorship banner of GP-79, it routed you to my driver page. Now the firm's site has been partially cleaned up and will get better going forward. So here's a little shameless advertising about B&P. Btw, all R2P members get a free consult and a reduced rate if there is a matter on which you need help...except for McArthur. I charge him triple normal rates.

For Jerry Chen
Oct 04, 2007

The Black Hosers start their campaign, such as it is (their best player is still their coach), tonight. The Chicago Tribune actually gave the team and the NHL some pub. The columnist created a bunch of tongue in check categories, one of which is who will win the Missing Hanson Brother Trophy. The columnist's pick? None other than our favorite enforcer and the head of "Mustache Nation", George Parros.

Somewhere Tiger Williams is saying finally one of my kind is finally getting some positive press.

Thought you'd like to know.

This part is not in the papers. A retired judge with whom I am very good friends is Savard's next door neighbor. As the Judge explains it, 'Bulin hasnt stopped a beach ball all camp long. Savard asked Nik what's the problem and Nik said he cant do anything unless he gets 9 hours of sleep. Look for Corey Crawford to get a call up before the season [... more]

American Gangster
Nov 09, 2007

Saw it last night with the Mrs (she likes Crowe and Washington; whose wife doesnt?) Good movie but long at 2+ hrs. Washington and Crowe were great. Different slant on the gangster genre. I liked it but it is no Scarface or Godfather. If you expect Denzel to be how he was in Training Day (highly recommended), you'll be disappointed. Violence was present but not to the level of any of the 3 others mentioned. Be prepared for some serious, serious drug abuse scenes. More about the lead characters than about supercriminals versus supercops. 3 out of 4 stars.
