Well XP took a dump on me this morning, and nothing I am aware of could get it going again. Getting lots of errors reinstalling so I think I am going to just finish this install, back up what I can from C drive and go buy Vista. My XP is a corp version and Microsoft won't allow updates anymore. It is also pre SP2 but I have the SP2 file. Just not in the mood to screw with it anymore. So needless to say, I had to back out of the 2 races I have scheduled for today. Hopefully I will have all my racing stuff back up and running by the time my next event races. |
You can integrate (slipstream) SP2 onto your XP CD with this tool. You could also download AutoPatcher XP Core August, extract it and also integrate, with the tool above, all the security updates and hotfixes till August 2007.
Just remember Vista doesnt run games very well. So expect some issues, unless you have a top end pc.
Well after a friggin nightmare of repairing XP, re-installing 72 updates and all of this without being able to get the mouse to be recognized I finally got the pig running again. No Vista yet!
I made a backup of XP once I had all basic programs installed on a 15 GB partition, using Norton Ghost. After that I backup once every 1-2 months, always on a different physical hard disk. This has helped me numerous times.
Ah thanks for the reminder Ari. I have a really old backup of a fresh XP install but that wouldn't have done me anygood this far down the line. I also have Ghost installed. Going out tonight so I will definately start a backup.
Kent, I still recommend you to integrate SP2 and all the updates and hotfixes onto installation CD, that means making new installation CD. |
