Finally, I am getting to move out of this state that I refer to as "the sinking ship". I've wanted out of CA for a very long time, and did for one year in 1999, but ended up right back in CA after. With the mortgage industry falling flat on it's face last year, CA took a huge hit. Tens of thousands of mortgage industry employees in CA alone are now unemployed and killing for any job they can get to support their new H3's and million dollar 2 bedroom condos. My family was hit by this layoff twice in 6 months with the lady losing 2 jobs in that time frame (both in the housing industry). We realized that there was no purpose in finding employment in this state again as it is just guaranteed unemployment within a year or two anyway. So, with nothing holding this family of three in this state (no jobs, no house, no family, and the worst school system in the country) we have decided to jump this sinking ship ASAP. The only logical place for me to settle back down is as close as possible to my close friend and business partner (Todd, just in case you did not know) in Colorado. It is the home of our beloved VindexWorks/Race2Play and the chance to work side by side with Todd is going to be great (for as long as he can put up with me). We (by that I mean "I") have decided to do this move my way. This means, in the most literal extent, sell everything in the 4 bedroom house we currently rent and only bring what we can fit in the vehicles. This past week we have sold every item out of our house. It is bare right now... no beds, no couches, no silverware, nothing. I saved a single coffee mug and my portable lap-top table and she saved the clothing and shoes (LOL, she has priorities huh?). We have not bothered to look for a place in CO yet. We/I decided to be even more adventurous by going straight to CO without a home and spending a few days finding the perfect location to pitch tent. School districts, neighborhoods, proximity to Todd, are major deciding factors so we want to do this right... hands on, not blindly over the Internet. So, on March 23rd, we make the "jump" and hit I-80 heading East. We will be on the road for 3 days, then in hotels for another 3 - 7 days before we get settled in. This is going to be a blast! PS - Anyone want to drive my BMW to CO? Seriously... PSS - Anyone in NoCal have room to store a 280z until August? I want to keep it here for our proposed track day at ThunderHill then drive it back to CO after. Any help would be appreciated with this... it's a very small car. It can probably fit in a closet :-) |
I'm on spring break the week you are moving. I could drive the car out on the 26th & 27th. Where in Colorado? Don't think I can help on the Z though. Ballsy plan. I love that you sold all the shit. Shit is overrated!
Frick'n sweeeet. Todd lives down the road (not sure he knows that). We can do CO track days, all four of us :) Other than Todd, and Ray G I don't know of any other Coloradians here.
Mike, if you are serious about that I will take you up on the offer and pay for your return flight and all the costs (of course) and a few extra for your time. It is in the East Bay now and would be heading to Erie CO (just north of Boulder/Denver). It is 1200 miles and you have to pass through Utah (doh!) John, that will be cool!
Tim, sounds like a deal. I'll send you a PM.
Good luck with your move Tim! My family did the same a few years ago (although as you know we went one step further and skipped country). I hope it doesn't go nearly as tits-up for you as it did for us!!! And btw, I beleive Florida actually has 'officially' the worst school system in the country. Arkansas overtook them while I was out there (I blame my sister!!!)
Hmmm Scott has a sister :)) Ermm, what were we talking about? Ah yes, good luck Tim I hope you get your stuff sorted ASAP.
Tim, I am suddenly unemployed with a court date looming. Let me know if you need anything! tks,
Well I know for a fact that in 2003 CA was ranked 46 out of 50 with New Mexico at the bottom of the barrel.Am currently living just north of L.A & have grave concerns with the system here as my lil girl is in Kindergarten, hopefully will only be here for another 2 years.Sorry to hear that you have had to make such a drastic move but I have heard that Colorado is a pretty neat place to be. Best of luck.
Good luck Tim to you and your family.Ill be thinking of you on the day you leave "the sinking ship" Its my B-day...lol

Damn this is intense! If Mike is for any reason unable to deliver your BMW to CO, I would be available as a backup. My weekends are almost always free (with the exception of R2P F1, ;-) ), and my work is flexible for getting days off on somewhat short notice. Unfortunately I live in an apartment complex, so I've not got room to store a 280Z. Anyway, just let me know. It looks like alot of people here are at your disposal, oh fearless leader! :-) |
