Rookie flag worker

Well, I applied, and I've been accepted. I'm officially going to be a first time flag worker at Watkins Glen this season. Just got the OK this morning. New member meeting is this Saturday. Training to follow suit.

Going to be sweet to see most every kind of racing available... for free... from some of the best seats in the house.

One tiny step closer to the real deal for me.

I've applied to be a corner worker as well here in Indiana, for SCCA.

I get to be an intern to a veteran timing and scoring steward. What a fantastic job.

Thanks guys. It's just a volunteer gig, so I still have a day job. But I think this will be much more enjoyable work. Actually, I'm damn certain of it. Best perk beyond free races... free passes for guests. =)

corner workers allways wave at me on my cool down lap. its kinda like a parade lap, cause im constanntly waving and honkin the horn. funny lap

When I know my schedule of events I'll be at, I'll be sure to post. Not sure if I'll have much advance notice as for which corner(s) I'll be working, but if I know that, I'll provide it too.

I completed my instruction a few weeks ago, including NASCAR certification... I now have a NASCAR ID w00t!. I had to work OT at my regular job the last couple weekends, so I haven't been able to work a race yet. But I will be there this coming weekend for Skippy School, and the following week for a Porsche Clash. In June I'll be working my first pro event... Sahlen's 6hrs at the Glen. Daytona Prototypes and some mixed support races. Can't wait.

EDIT: I leanred also that the guest passes are not as freely distributed as I'd been led to believe. We get *1* (one) guest pass per event.
