How do you perform drunk?
02:41 PM on Apr 03, 2008

Sim-racing I'm talking about.

I've got a lethal car/track combo coming up at 6am after red wine and cheese night. In the past, I've noticed it helps me turn in smoother, brake a bit later, ease back on the power, but Champcars @ Longbeach may be asking a bit much.

Might hop over to Doug Snyder's articles - maybe he covered it.

Here's the Wiki on it:

Progressive Effects of AlcoholBAC (%)BehaviorImpairment0.01–0.029

  • Avg. individual appears

  • Subtle effects that can be
    detected with special tests

  • Mild euphoria
  • Sense of well-being
  • Relaxation
  • Talkativeness
  • Joyous
  • Decreased inhibition
  • Lowered alertness

  • Death Possible
  • Bladder Function
  • Breathing
  • Heart Rate

  • Heart Rate

Now talkitiveness & slurred speech: check, I'll leave Teamspeak off.
Average person appears normal: fantastic - that should make me go quicker.
Depth perception - check, the screen doesn't move.
Reasoning - check. I'm usually too courteous on track anyway.
Peripheral vision - check - I use look left and look right.
Glare recovery - ok, headlights aren't allowed.
Memory blackout - I'll have a track map beside me.
Bladder function - it's cold here at 6am anyway. Actually does R2P store sell those bottles?

Now the bad:

Severe motor impairment - can't afford to be let down by my car
Death possible - DNF's piss me off.

Haha, love the last two :-)

Impaired sexual pleasure - sim racers do it longer. Drunk sim racers do it even longer :P

That joke was aimed more at the TM.net crowd

Are you suggesting it'll take longer to finish? I don't mind going down by two laps.

I got a good chuckle out of this, but on a serious note I think it would be interesting to compare laptimes across a few hours some night.

Of course, it's too late to start measuring this night... :)

LOL nice one Mike :D
I noticed that when I'm playing drunk I can blur out most of the things around me. This is good when you don't need to hear your girl talking nonsense when you're driving and also I focus better.
So I say go ahead, have a "raikkonen" before a race :D

This was the best :D
Death possible - DNF's piss me off.

Who needs researches and studies while you got Janko just waiting to be asked :)

PS: I have noticed lately that he is quite drunk an hour or two before the race. Maybe you should try doing that...

Well after we had two bottles of red, lots of cheese and home-ground super-spicy laksa, my reasoning tells me I better pull out of the Longbeach race.

There's an idea, anyone runing a 1.05.1 or better in the champcar has to consume half gallon of Jim Beam before the race.

No puking on the track, these cars are slippery enough.

How come time perception wasn't on the list? I just realized I pulled out out of the race which isn't actually on today but tomorrow. Damn.

Now I'm 7th on the waiting list.
