Looks like it's Wintendo re-install time again
06:12 AM on Apr 12, 2008

Well. Looks like my Wintendo XP has finally gone down the crapper. Didn't take long this time around.
It's got this frustrating audio stutter issue, same I had last time. Wasn't able to solve it back then without re-installing :-(
Now I can't play any games or audio and video files without massive stuttering.

Needless so say everything works just fine in Linux. This is annoying :-(

I was having some terrible graphics glitches that just kept getting worse till it finally crapped out altogether.

I figured it must have something to do with the graphics drivers so I replaced them with Omega drivers for nVidia GPU's.

So far it's smooth FPS heaven!

ArmA is running smooth as butter with great FPS compared to before the Omega drivers. rFactor and GTR 2 have never been a problem FPS wise (my rig is 8800 GT SLI). I'ts the war games (ArmA, Crysis, GRAW2, COD4) that have been giving me FPS fits.

Try loading the Omega drivers (ATI or nVidia) did wonders for me.

Hi,Dan

It's not a video issue. It's the audio that stutters.

GOOD NEWS. I managed to get it working again without a re-install :-)

Suddenly remembered that I've had a similar problem before and the issue was that the disk controller had set itself to PIO instead of DMA.
Found this neat little script:

and a reboot later everything is working again :-)

Disk is now in UDMA 6 instead of PIO 5. Will have to remember this next time it starts to act up LOL
