F1 practice races free 4 all - Interested?

Hey guys,

Lately I've been thinking that I sure would like more F1 races here at r2p, but on the other hand proper preparations for a race like this are so time consuming that it probably would be impossible for most of us mortals to run 2 F1 series concurrently.
Initially I had an idea of starting completely r2p-independent event for F1 enthusiasts here which would allow them to participate in a F1 race without any rank restrictions - just for practice and fun. This sounded like a good idea but later I realized that it sucks big time. I wanted to achieve two things with this kind of event:
1. Give r2p rookies a chance to participate in a F1 race.
2. Get myself and slower F1 regulars some 'sparring partners' to practice racing in traffic.
Running a full-race would be a total disaster - none of the above goals would be met. Rookies would most probably spin out early in the race and only a couple of more experienced drivers would survive to the finish...and we all can imagine how much this would suck :)

So what's my answer to this problem? A series of let's say 5 races, each 5 laps. One race right after another (with maybe a very short brake between for some fine-tuning of the car).
I think this may turn out as a really interesting event. Even if someone crashes or spins and looses any chance of racing other drivers there's no worries - another race and another chance will be in 10 minutes. A randomly assigned grid places would make things even more interesting as faster drivers would sometimes have to navigate through traffic to get to the top...

I'm aiming at full grid in this event to make it as exciting as possible. So the first step is to actually gather large enough group of people who would like to participate in a race like this. Like I said earlier - everyone is welcomed - even if you're a complete F1 rookie and just want to test yourself in these cars - jump in and give it a try (although I expect that everyone shall do some serious practice - I don't want to make a spin-fest out of this event :) ). Yes, I know that everyone is allowed to race on r2p server when it's not the D-Day, but racing 24 people is more fun than doing practice with 3 :P

First thing to settle is the day of the week when these events would occur and I guess this would be crucial to most of you. Monday looks kinda slow on r2p so it seems to me like the best choice but it's just a proposition.

Summing this all up - if you like the idea and want to take part in this kind of a race let me know here. Actually I don't know if a race like this is a good idea, so if you think that it sucks let me know also. Maybe together we'll figure out something more realistic.

That's all from me; your turn now... :)

I'm doing the main series for the first time and would welcome any practice for running with other cars so I'd support a fun series like this. So long as it was a Euro friendly time ;-)

I like the idea. On LFS we used to do races over and over with 10 laps with a mandatory pit stop. So you get to practice the start, first lap, and pit in and out. Great way to prepare for the "Big Race".

That could be fun, but in such short sprint races people tend to take a lot of risks.

David, you by no means qualify as a rookie/novice or anything related :-)

OK, looks like that's all of us for now. I've created a group for everyone interested so join it and we'll start to organize our first race. 6 is not much but hopefully more people will join us as time goes by.
