Obutto after a few weeks
01:23 AM on Apr 21, 2008

I have had the Obutto for about 3 weeks now and my feelings are still very positive. I have found that the seat has become much more comfortable and now I can sit in it for several hours without discomfort, which I have been doing much of lately. :) I guess it just needed to be broken in. Everything else has been good. I haven't found using the pedal ramp to be comfortable because of the angle it puts the pedals at, so I just have the ramp sitting on the carpet below with the pedals on it so they are lower and further away. I've been doing loads of F1 testing and the cockpit has helped me with feeling settled in and comfortable so I can turn 20-lap stints all within a second or two because I don't get as easily distracted.

Good to hear your happy with your Obutto cockpit.

The seat on my WIP cockpit was very uncomfortable also. It's a cheap ($99 at PeP-Boys) Chinese imitation of the Momo T-Frame race car seat. There was virtually no padding. An orthopedic seat cushion and some foam padding for the back has made it much more comfortable but looks ugly with no covering over the padding. When I get the time, I'll take the seat to an auto upholstery shop and have a cool seat insert made for it in blue velour.

So do you find when dodging an accident that you tip the whole unit over? Or do you bolt it into the floor?

I've got to do something about a seat - I'm still getting back pain and I've tried an executive office chair, a grunt office chair and an cushy armchair.

But my rig is temporary. Somebody should design a cockpit that folds up, rolls away and stores under the bed.

It's not bolted down but it certainly isn't going to go anywhere. It's made of pretty heavy steel tubing. It weighs a lot and sitting on it only plants it more.

No hi-tech digital camera here! lol

Have to save my pennies for the next CPU/GPU upgrade which never ends!!!
