Why do you like NASCAR ?

Why do you like NASCAR,

Is it the big loud V8`s? American cars?

Do you like for the fact you refuse to like foriegn racing?

Do you like it cause the racing is allways close?

Do you like it for the wrecks?

Do you like it because the cars are pretty much Spec racers?

Do you like it cause your a good ole boy?

Just curious i am, thats all

Don't like any aspect of it.

But if lead changes via draft and pass define racing for you, and apparently it does for many fans of NASCAR, then all the power to 'em.

Just not my bag.

I guess it is the closest racing in the country...

but I think it's boring as hell as well. I don't understand it at all, I'm interested to see where this thread goes.

I prefer the close, strategic racing of touring cars, GT racing, sports car racing, etc.

For me it's simply a case of something different. I am fascinated by oval racing in general. The tactical and technical importance is critical and the interaction between cars and drivers at 190mph in close proximity is astonishing.

I like it for the close racing and the unique strategy and skills it takes to move these things around a oval close to 200mph on the razors edge. It's just an entirely different type of racing. Why people try to compare it to F1 or some other type of racing...I have no idea.

Since we're already off to a good start with a bash NASCAR theme, I'll go ahead and say that I don't like that the direction NASCAR is going in. Baby Face France and Co are doing they're best to drive this thing into the ground. Brian needs to dislodge the silver spoon from his brain and start moving this series back to the real racing days instead of turning it into a circus. He can't rely on Junior being there to keep the ratings high forever.

It also annoys me how much of a spec series this thing is turning into. I know it hasn't been much of a stock car series for a while now, but even a decade ago, the cars kinda looked like real cars. Then they got real goofy with aerodynamics and now they're onto the brick COT. Even though they apparently have four different makes, they all have to use the same template. WTF is that?! Just boggles my mind...

Other than that...I like NASCAR :)

I like Nascar because its something I've never seen on live, because provides spectacle and overpassing, because its always close car racing and because I love America

Have you two tried it yet?

I felt the same way till I actually entered a SC event. With a good setup (Bill Johnson s/u's) the racing is very close and exciting.
I see you are both very gifted drivers so you may not have this problem, as a back marker (I'm very, very slow - no talent at all). I've done fairly well in some of the stock car events, experiancing some of the closest action packed racing ever for me.
Boring for me is running at the back of the pack in a typical road race all alone with an occasional alien blasting by - not my idea of a good time.
Until some of the more gifted drivers give their reasons for driving SC's, get off your high horses and give it a try, you may like it! : )

EDIT:
OOPS, guess you really were talking about the real NASCAR! LoL

I have no interest in watching it at all!!! hehe
Now can I go back to watching the F1 qual for the Istanbul GP?

But hey, my suggestion still holds as I don't think Rob and Tom (Shane too?) have tried it yet, maybe you'll get an interest in the real thing then.

Hey Toni, thanks for the kind words towards America! You don't hear those sentiments from across the pond very much (at all?)

Please, I don't want to hijack this thread, just like to mention something...

The world doesn't hate America, only the worlds leftist's.

OK, please start a new thread if you want to hammer me. Back to the NASCAR now.

I like NASCAR because you can see more than 40 cars going together at 200 mph in 300 metres. NASCAR is great, but sometimes is boring, so I prefer races like ChampCar, MotoGP, WTCC, BTCC or Rallys :)

i love it cuz u can actually make contact and not mess up yur day. i love it cuz there is nothin like it live. i also love it cuz it is what racing is meant 2 be. i am proud 2 hate the foreign nameplate and am also proud to not like the cot as much. but, once u see it live, u never go back. open wheel and touring car is just not my thing, and i respect if that kind of racing is your favorite, so be it.

Um you know I have never really thought about why I actually do like watching nascar. For me I love all kinds of racing. It really doesn't matter what they are racing I will usually sit and watch it. As for nascar though I have just always love watching it. I think it is just all the close racing that goes on. And I love oval racing. Road course racing as never really been my thing for some reason. I enjoy watching it and all but given a chance to chose between oval racing and road course racing I will be watching the oval racing. The cup series has gotten a little boring here lately though. The cot seems to help make the races not boring. The busch (oh sorry nationwide series) as always been boring to me. But the truck series and arca is always a blast to watch. The trucks are just so much fun because they are always beating the hell out of each other and it is always exciting. Arca is really fun to watch too but I don't get a chance to watch many of their races. I hear a lot of people talking about how can you watch cars go around in a circle. I can understand that if you don't get into it that it can be boring as hell. My advice to people like that has always been sit down and watch them at Bristol or Marty or hell any short track for that matter. Just sit and watch the whole thing. Or better yet go to a real race. Just don't judge your opinion on Daytona or Dega races because that is really not racing more like Russian Roulette. Although those races are a hell of a lot of fun to watch.

As for actually racing, nascar style racing is always my favorite. Usually it doesn't matter how good or bad you are there is always someone there you can fight with. For road course racing, I have never been that good at it. I try but just can't pick it up. And usually it is really boring for me because usually the only cars I ever see are at the start of the race and then every now and again when the leaders pass me.

I agree though if you have never tried it you should give it a shot. It can be a lot of fun.
