Developing rFactor for better racing, Please read this Tim!
09:26 PM on May 11, 2008

Im sure what i am about to say is nothing new, but i have heard many complaints about the way the default rfactor vehicles handle. I myself find the cars to be a pain in the ass when it comes to predictability, especialy the rTrainer, which is worst. So i would like to ask if all you guys and owners of race2play would give me a chance to redevelop the rtrainers, so they are more realistic, and much more fun to drive, especialy as most new/inexperienced drivers race them as a feeder to F2 and F1 etc. I would like to basically go over everything and improve it, and im quite experinced with physics. I guess if you let me i could just release it, and if enough of you liked it maybe we could use it instead of default rtrainers.

Anyway, its just a suggestion, i just would like to make racing these nimble beats more fun for evertone.

Thanks for readng,

Look foward to any replies!

Richie,

I would think (but im not sure) that you wouldn't need permission from Tim to mod the files, but you would need permission from Tim to get the files hosted for use on Race2play. As long as you posted that the files you modify are considered part of a "mod". Go over to www.rfactorcentral.com

Richie, as rFactor and the default cars are made by ISI (Image Space Inc), to do the right thing you should probably get permission from them if you want to reuse & rerelease something they've done. Though I actually don't know if they have a stated policy.

See here:

Formula IS 2008

The included high powered open wheelers were redone to modern modding standards, reusing the FormulaIS 3D models and stock rF sounds. And yes permission was sought and granted from ISI.

Careful if you start to mod, it's a slippery slope of addiction that can ruin your innocent enjoyment of perfectly good games! :-)

thanks tommy. Its ok ive been modding for ages, especialy on gtr 2 and f1 challenge, but never released much. You sure i need permision from ISI? I just want to release it as a mod race2play can use rather than tu try and update rfactor itself. But thanks for the link, very helpfull!

Cheers,

Rich.

Well my requests: :-)

a. Redo the suspension in Car Factory
b. Remodel the chassis - it's such an ugly beast that trainer. I've haven't picked up one chick in it yet...

All the best.

LOL! Thanks Jonty! I too find it ugly, and is im a in a modding team with a realy bunch of skilled guys i think remodeling could actually be osmething i can do! Suspension and tyres are also one of those things i am desperate to improve, as the slip angles and grip physics are simply useless.

Cheers,

Rich.

You don't need permission from ISI, many cars at RFC use the original mesh with improved physics, aka Nismo Skyline,H6 etc, good luck

I've always really liked the handling of the trainers as they are.
