It seems I am cursed. I had maintained a DNF-free record for quite some time here at R2P, but in the last month or so that number is now up to 4. Sadly, only one of them was an honest DNF (a mistake or a result of contact etc) in which I ran myself into the wall one too many times at Bathurst in the overly-delicate Megane cars. The only series I care about now is Formula 1 and sadly the curse has really hit me in the balls here. My first F1 race ever at Silverstone was going excellent. I was about 2/3rds through the race running in 4th place and looking to finish with a 4th (or at the worst 5th if Heinz really moved his ass) when suddenly Connection to server lost. That dropped me down to a 16th place finish (started 8th) and was nearly the most disappointing race I've ever had. The second round of the season at Barcelona was a great race for me. I had a smashing qualifying lap and started 4th on the grid and crossed the finish line in 4th. It was my crowning moment thus far on R2P. The third round at China was shaping up to be pretty good. I didn't qualify as well as I was capable of (started 9th but my best qualifying time in practice would have put me in 4th if I could have done it again) but the race went really well as I gained a few spots early and my pit strategy was working very well for me. I ended up running 4th very late in the race behind Kent when he suddenly blew his engine with about 7 laps to go. I dialed my boost down to 1 and coasted it home safely for my first F1 podium. Then with THREE LAPS remaining, my game locked up. Enough people had already crashed out that I managed to retain a single point with 8th place, but this was even more of a letdown than Silverstone. Not only because I was running a podium position with over a minute between me and 4th place, but because it was only my 3rd F1 race after a disappointing start. So, within minutes after this disappointment, I backed up a few files from my computer and immediately reformatted the hard drive and did a clean reinstall. From now on, the only thing running on that system will be rFactor and the only mod I am running is R2P F1. Everything seems to be running nicely (but then it always did before, too). If something like that happens again, I will go mental. |
i run 3 differnt rfactors, on my pc. one is a take all, and the other 2 or mod specific | ||
Interesting idea. So you just install each of them to a separate destination folder? Does that ever pose any issues, running it from a directory other than the default? Also, does each installation require a separate activation and do the registries not overlap or something? | ||
you start with a Clean setup, and you just copy and paiste it how ever many times you want, and rename it of course, Like RFACTOR F1 - RFACTOR RANDOM etc ect. and then to keep it from getting crazy, go inside of it, and grab the start of ICON and rename it to, works fine, | ||

I asked on their support forum at RSC and they say if you install the same copy that's installed, it should not require activation. If it does, then I'll have to request more. Thanks for the idea, Shane. I am going to do that so I can still tinker with other mods without fear of possibly disturbing the clean peaceful F1 install. | ||
bottom line Justin, you seem to be driving well and fast. Take the reward, that you did just that. The numbers will come. Not like your gettin old. lol. Just remember where you've been and where you are now. Kevin ps imagine what it's like for real life drivers, you Qual in the top 10 at the INDY 500. 2nd lap engine blows. Can't imagine what that feeling would be. | ||

I've been cursed too this last month--lost internet for a week, disco, warp... In fact the last two races I managed to race ¾ of lap, total. About 10 hours practice though! | ||
