Going to America, where can i watch f1?
11:17 AM on May 14, 2008

Ok guys,

Tomorrow i am heading off to LA for 2 weeks, as my mum is doing some bits in recording studios. Now to be honest, im only going for the view, and as long as i can watch F1 i dont mind. I mean who would want to miss monaco!!

Anyway, as a question to all you americans, and hopefully some of you that live near LA, is there any channels i can watch from my hotel that have F1? In England f1 is on ITV, which is the standard channel all TV's have, but i have no idea about American TV. Any help apreciated,

Rich

F1 is covered in the US on the Speed Channel, which is a cable-only channel available on most cable systems. It's probably not part of the "basic cable", however. Most homes which have cable probably have it, most hotels will not.

Four (?) of the races are carried on the Fox Network which is a "broadcast channel. Monaco is not one of them, however.

I think you'll enjoy the speedTV coverage of the grand prix's. A lot less commercial breaks, and fantastic announcers. I watched a bit of ITV coverage and it just wasn't as nice.

ITV-f1.com stream the races live and I have to say that its probably one of the best streams I have ever seen.

You are unlikely to be able to connect to it outside the UK however Richie, but that doesnt stop you from connecting to a UK proxy server and connecting that way.

Brilliant thanks everyone! Excuse me for saying this, but an american channel with less commercials than ITV? I didnt know ITV was getting that bad or that speed was getting that much better! So do you think there coud be a way i could ask for the cable in my hotel? And do you know a proxy i can watch the race from?

Thanks Lads!

You are right Shane. The rednecks have taken over the speed channel. It was much better when it was Speedvision.

Here in LA, Speed is carried on:

Verizon (cab): ch 71
Time Warner (cab): ch 266
Dish Network (sat): ch 150
Direct TV (sat): ch 607

Be sure to check with your hotel to see what their provider is. Also, make sure they have the correct package that includes Speed on their list. I was with Adelphia (now with Time Warner) before I got Dish Network, and I never had the Speed channel. That was a couple years ago, things may have changed, but it's probably a good thing to check up on it anyway.

I would think that most hotels have just basic cable and Speed doesn't come with basic cable. Actually it doesn't even come with basic Directv (which is what I have). You have to have the upgraded packages for what ever service you have. Atleast that is the way it is where I am at on the east coast.

And yes speed does host F1 actually 2 times a day I believe atleast that is the way it was Sunday morning. It was on when I woke up Sunday and then it came back on a few hours later.

Hey Richie you could always find someone on here that has Speed and lives close to where you are staying and just bum off of them.
