Many times I've wanted to run motec, or some other program on a second monitor while testing/racing. This would be okay for viewing, but if you clicked anything on the second monitor, it would instantly minimize the game and would sometimes cause a CTD. Is there any way to allow control of a secondary monitor program, without affecting the game? Thanks |
Try running your game in Windowed mode. You set it by running the config program in your game's main folder where you set resolution etc (assuming rF, GTR2 and GTL... might work for Race too). You should then be fine clicking on applications on the second monitor. This is how I run my system.
I've seen windowed mode leave an FPS hit. Is this still true? So I just need to run windowed mode in the resolution of my fullscreen monitor then? 1280x1024 correct?
I can't comment on a fps hit. Can't say I'm particularly aware of one on my setup. If so, it's pretty small. If your desktop res is 1280, then yes, set your game at the same. You may have to position the window on the screen better though. You'll have a normal desktop cursor to move it like any other window.
Sounds good, Thanks Pete!
What I do is extend the monitors and drag & drop the Motec to the second monitor and run the game on the primary monitor. Works ok this way for me.
Thats what I do too doug, but without windowed mode enabled, (but rather when im running full screen) clicking anywhere outside the game (on the secondary monitor) results in a CTD for the game. DirectX likes to have full control of the whole computer at once.
windows mode killlls my computer like a great white shark |
