Hi lads,

Title sais it all. Does the Grand Am series, or specifically the DP's in grand am, use tyre warmers?

Cheers.

2008 Rulebook, 9-6 says not allowed. Of course, that doesn't mean they don't try.

They mention frequently on the Speed channel broadcasts that "Grand-Am DP cars are different than Formula 1, because they don't use tire warmers, so on the first few laps, the tires are cold and the car is very difficult to drive."

Yeah...thats the only difference :p

omg, how can speed compare a grand am DP car to an f1 car? F1 is light speeds apart. Even Le Mans LMP1 cars would find it hard to keep up with an f1 car.

Tire warmers are not allowed. AND, they can't even fudge like the Le Mans teams do and keep the tires in heated temporary closets. GA is low tech.
As far as comparing lap times, for several years in the ALMS, there was a Rotary Mazda LMP2 car that tried to compete. They actually did win a class round when everyone else broke.(this was before Penske and Acura btw) But on pace they were never competitive.
Anyhow, this poor Mazda was often caught and passed by the GT1 Corvettes. But when I compared lap times for this definite ALMS backmarker, the Mazda would have been right in the hunt with the top shelf Daytona Prototypes from Grand Am.
You can compare the DIFFERENCES between a DP and F1 car, but certainly not the similarities, other than both having 4 tires.

Grand-Am Daytona Prototypes = Road Racing NASCAR.

Of course...if that's the case, then I really do like NASCAR, despite my best efforts :P
