An Update on Little Ol' Me
02:14 PM on Jul 01, 2008

Well, I was just looking at my results page and it looks like my last race was in November of '07 and lots of things have happened since then. Here's a rough timeline...

Oct. '07 - I got caught in ANOTHER layoff from Dell. I've pretty much had my fill of that company now and will never work for them again. Believe it or not they contacted me about a job two months later. I politely told them to shove it. :)

Nov. '07 - I accepted a job with Applied Materials as a manufacturing engineer. It's not design like I hoped for, but I like what I do and hopefully one day I'll be able to move over to another design role.

Dec. '07 - I sold the house I'd bought new in Dec. '99. I'd been living on the very outskirts of what could be considered the greater Austin area (Leander) and it was hell on the social life. So I put the house on the market (in July!) and decided to find a house as close to town as I could afford.....as long as it had at least a large 2 car garage, of course.

Jan. '08 - I moved into my new house. It's a basic 3/2 with a loft in a cul-de-sac that was built in the groovy '70s. I don't have any good front shots so here's the best I've got along with a shot of the backyard/porch/hot tub.

Then over the next month or so I busted my butt and installed an epoxy floor and shelving in the garage and painted it before I started on my next big project...

It's not quite this clean or empty now... :)

Feb. '08 - Then I hosted a big ol' party to celebrate my first of many 39th birthday parties. :) One friend made gumbo and another made red beans 'n' rice.... Good stuff!!

My buddy brought over Rock Band and it was a hit!

Feb. '08 - Then I started the project I'd been planning for months. It was finally time to remove the lift kit on the Jeep that utlized short control arms and instead of spending $2500 on a long arm lift, I decided to build one. I'll spare y'all on the fabrication pics, but here's the front and rear all finished and in action...

A little twisted up on a rock...

So I just wrapped this up about a month ago and been taking care of other things I've let lapse since it took so much of my time. I've got a social life again!! :) Anyway, that's what I've been up to since I last chatted with y'all...

Nice pics and grats on the new job and house. You might start considering expanding the garage as it will get small eventually. At least mine does already now as I got me third bike, The Flying Brick aka BMW K1100RS, last week. Interesting stuff on the Jeep. How does it corner on track days? :)

LOL! Actually, you'd be surprised how well it handles on the street. Don't get me wrong, it's not a corner carver by any means, but it's not as bad as you'd think. :)

And Finn, I really wish I had room for a bigger garage, but sadly I don't. :(

Hey Tommy,

Shane Johnson here. How are things going for ya man? I'd email ya, but don't seem to have your address. Are you still racing in any virtual form? I always enjoyed running with y'all, but have drifted away from the hardcore. If you're still down in the Austin area, we may need to hookup for a beer or something. I'm planning on getting a new motorcycle and taking a trip down that way to ride what I think is called the "Devil's Backbone"... some nice roads out southwest of Austin. If you want to email me, shoot one to: Nyxs (at) sbcglobal.net

Cheers!
Shane
