FIS Race, 12th September

So, I've been practicing for the FIS race in about 2 hours. Felt quite good, because I'm new-ish to the Watkins Glen circuit and set a fastest of 1:25.553. But then I thought "These guys I'm competing with are most likely using FFB wheels, I'm not, and they're probably setting lap times around 3-5 seconds quicker."

Oh dear.

First, welcome Liam...

No need to worry about what the others are doing. Even if you are 3-5 seconds per lap slower, there is only one way to tighten that gap; get in there and race. Chances are that there will be others running around the same speeds as you, so latch on to their rear wing and enjoy

Good point, I read about that on some tips on this site earlier.

Cheers for the heads up, best thing is to have fun! :)

Gotta back up what Tim said, it has always been the subject of debate; whether or not there is an advantage to using FFB. It's something I've been looking at recently following my decision to start saving for a new setup. After talking to a lot of guys (such as Tim), reading a lot of forums (notably racesimcentral and of course, R2P) it would appear that there are in fact many high-spec, high-cost steering wheel setups that don't even have FFB.

Essentially, better gear (or perhaps, gear you are more comfortable with) is only ever going to bring consistency to your driving and racing. The raw speed is a mixture of talent, aggression and experience.

Having raced karts previously, it's not really natural for me to feel nothing through the wheel, so I might invest in the MOMO. We'll see though.

Liam,
a 1 25 5 would of put you on the front row for the Euro
race, not bad at all!

I'm pretty sure I could've qualified better today but after a little collision with the wall I didn't have enough time to complete a hot lap :(

Awesome race though, even if I did retire.
