Well here it is. My after action report on my 2 amazing days on track at the Glen.

I won't bother blogging the whole thing here, as I just spent an obscene amount of time making a full-scale blog elsewhere. If you're interested in reading what I did, from getting the car ready, to what the event was like, to reporting on the track action, please take a gander at my blog, "Hunting Apexes".

Brew a pot of coffee and settle down for a long read. Or just watch the videos there. All the on-track vids and info are on the most recent blog posts. The earlier, pre-event posts are at the bottom.

Here's a vid of one lap, the only one with captions (lap 3). In the interest of file size, I broke up the 25 minute session into 1 vid per lap (6 laps shown - I excluded the Out- and In- laps).

This embedded video is tiny, unfortunately. See it, and the others in larger size here.

Nice lines Pete. You are really taking to it quick. It looks like you are really comfortable in the car. I'm sure all this sim racing helped tremendously. It did for me. Is your instructor getting nervous with you tracking out all the way to the curbing at the tunnel straight? He keeps pointing left.

It's always a bonus when you can hang with a 911 too. Now all you need is a set of sticky rubber and 50 more horsepower.

Thanks guys.

Mike, I don't think my instructor, Blake, was ever nervous about my exits. At least, he never let on he was.

I'm not sure where exactly you mean when you say 'tunnel turn.' We don't use that name for any of the corners, and we have 4 tunnels.

If you mean just in this video, there were 2 corners where I twitched away from the apex and he points back toward it. I had either turned in too early, had more grip than usual going in, and/or had given too much steering input and corrected.

When I wasn't being corrected on mistakes, Blake was persistently pushing for me to be more aggressive, especially with getting the power down. I think he wanted me to attack the corners much more, and to get there, I needed to get past holding back, or blinking when something reached my current comfort limit.

@ Dan - TG, of course. =)

Nice run, Pete, the ol' Neon sounds great!

Who's on the back of your helmet?

Thanks Mike. I owe that lovely sound to my Pacesetter Monza system, newly installed just days before. It sure breathes a lot better than stock. I just wish I could have afforded a proper header... and not bothered to put a cat on either. ;)

The helmet is a loaner from my buddy Ron, a former dirt modified racer. The cartoon on the back is of some bull riding on a bomb/rocket, falling out of the sky ... ala Dr. Strangelove... sorta.
