Set development and time attack at Monza Jr. in the Exige tonight. Was lapping consistent 49's with the bad laps @ 50.5 ish. Set One ---
Set Two --- (Symmetrical) Fpsi: 25.8
Rpsi: 25.5
Going to have to keep this beast straight though the 'cane to win this one. Those walls are Naaaasty! That's where the fast laps are made on Jr though. Good news is that even on softs and running hot laps, tires don't over heat, just brake smooth, trail to the apex and ease in. Don't fear pulling taller gears with the wing clicked out to 4, it can be beneficial. Logic in this setup is to remove as much roll bar as possible, toe to regain the turn in, lighter springs to help over the curbs, and light rebound to help with the roll recovery. Add slow bump up front where you would normally want more rollbar. |
i'll try it\ | ||
Time attack puts artificial heat in the tires.
Don't understand why you have so much positive toe on the rear. Totally not necessary. Won't help much IMO. Roll bars are a little stiff too, but thats preference I suppose. Nice setup otherwise.
Thanks Andrew, I was in open practice - don't use TT anymore - like you said, artificial tire temps and fuel use (or none at all). I think I'm higher on rollbar and rear toe to help compensate for my overly sensitive pedal - G25 - I think the potentiometer is whacked, huge dead zone before it responds, then it jumps. Benefit is probably marginal though. I'll take some more roll out and re-tune the dampers to see what that yields, doing a bit more practice tonight.
Online laps slower than off, as usual. I couldn't get the tires hot like in offline practice, made some more wacky setup changes to get back under 50 (49.745) Final looks like this... Set One ---
Set Two --- (Symmetrical) Fpsi: 26
Rpsi: 26
Andrew, additional toe does seem to stabilize and give more acceleration grip, deceleration turn-in. I've officially adopted the clutch - it's invaluable at scrubbing speed while late braking, can make the difference between braking really late and sliding it around due to the coast lock in the diff - those not using one, drop the coast lock down to brake later and downshift during initial turn in. Curva 1 at junior really benefits from this, I'm braking just before the second marker and on the brakes all the way past the curb on the right. Exit from the first section can be smooth and hard if you flick it in toward the apex while under light acceleration in 3rd. Roll it on. Parabolica also like lots of late braking, lite throttle once settled into the corner and roll it on once you see the end of the candy cane on the apron, fade to the outside at full throttle, shift to 5 and hold it until you hit the braking zone (rubber mat). brake hard downshifting into 3rd, let off, flick it toward the first curb on the left and downshift to 2nd. Neutral throttle over the curb, accel a bit to the second curb, back to even throttle over the last barber shop pole and pour it on after she settles, avoiding max throttle until your fully straight. (just before the shift to 3rd) If you get squirrely coming out, shorting to 3rd and holding throttle position should cure. Tomorrow should be a very fun race - still the most important thing is keeping clean for 150. (now that I've wrecked 50 times finding the limits ;) |
