Punt rule, and quali
06:21 PM on Oct 23, 2008

I've been wondering about this all evening now...
In quali in the GT Pro earlier this evening, I'm coming round Chateau d'Eau, and someone's gone off track ahead of me. So, I come through carefully, but take the lead as it were, since I'm still on a (better than my last) fast lap.

Then, coming through the chicane, he punts me from behind, mid chicane, firing me off and into the wall, losing both wheels and killing my engine.

So, that's me out of quali. But unlike in a race, I'm the one who suffers there, he went on to continue qualifying.

OK, it didn't matter as I then had a power cut, and coudn't get back in before the race start (though it would have only been everyone sitting on the grid, consarn it!), and it may be that it's a rare problem too, but well... It caught me!

Is there any leeway as to the esc rule in qualifying, when things like this happen?

No, there is no leeway on the ESC rule, even if someone else takes you out.

Unfortunate, but a rare occurrence too.

Fair enough, thought it would probably be the case, as otherwise, things just get more complicated.
Fingers crossed I can avoid it in the future.

If its spotted by the Race Steward, the punter can be put to the back of the grid regardless of where he quals, and I seem to recall that occasionally a drive thru on the 1st race lap has been enforced Slink, unfortunatly the Race Steward cant have eyes everywhere and theres no replay file to look at.

Yep I was behind that and it was a ridiculous move by the offending driver.

Surely if you have screwed up your qual lap you let others around you go and prepare for the next one, not slam someone on a fast lap into the wall!
