YES! I finally have won my first league style race! I can not believe it.... i am just in shock right now still. Way back in January of 2006 i started sim racing with no idea how to drive fast at all.. i did not even know what a racing line was or what the difference between a 4 cylinder or V6 engine was... i just knew that i wanted to do this because i wanted to race cars someday.. this means more to me than going to state in cross country or any other sports related win i have celebrated over the years. This even means more to me than my numerous autocross wins i have taken this year in the SCCA. I really can not believe i got the win. I really have to thank the book written by Ross Bentley as my driving has improved greatly ever since i begun reading it just recently. I stayed very consistent with my driving and watched my tires very closely.. i made sure i had proper weight distribution going into the corners and that i had the car set. I have had numerous podiums and near wins in other leagues but i could never quite make it to the top. I have tried so hard over the past 2 years to finally get there. It really makes me remember the first time i had a podium and even the first time i overtook someone legitimately! (which took MONTHS mind you) I have definitely come a long way, this really means a lot to me. Sim racing has definitely helped me become a much better driver and has really helped me realize a dream i might not have ever had the chance to get close to. I recently bought a 99 Miata this April and i never had driven a sports car or a stick shift fast in my life. I had my first autocross and my first chance to drive my car the way it was supposed to be and thanks to Sim Racing i knew what i was doing right away and finished second and beat a lot of veteran's times off the bat. I recently finished my autocross season with 4 class wins and 3 2nd places in class. However, the real win i wanted this year was in the Sim world as i believe it has the best competition you can find at this level. I am very busy with school at the moment and have not raced as much due to auto crossing but i completed a major goal this year. I even had it written on a piece of paper i stuck up that i will win a league style sim race before the end of the year no matter what. (I have won a ton of races on Live for Speed and just pick up races on rfactor.. but never organized just pick up races.) I have completed this goal and i plan on really dedicating everything i got to doing well over the winter and learning even more to complete my real life racing goals as well. I want to take the moment to dedicate this to my father who unfortunately died of a brain tumor last Christmas. He always got a kick out of watching me sim race as he was a former racer himself and was really excited to start doing it with me as we had set him up with the equipment but he had a very untimely death. He would always ask me if i had won yet and we would always talk about how cool it was to race with other people around the world at such legendary tracks. Well i finally did it and this is for you dad |
