Since I bought GTR2, I had been screwing around with the idea of Online Racing. I wasn't sure if I really wanted to do it though. My Car Club, side job of building custom trucks, working overtime AND not to mention the fact that my XBox Live habit (that I've had since the day it launched) already took up alot of my time. So adding Sim Racing to that list was sure to get me in trouble with the Mrs. But she thought it was a good idea, as long as it kept me out of the shop, where I was spending too much time an making very little $$$... Lets just say I had a big heart for awhile, and it didn't pay me very much. I was very skeptical at first. I'm used to Xbox Live. You pay for a service. The service is very organized, well maintained AND is guarenteed to be free of viruses or anything else that may turn your XBox 360 into a paperweight. Plus I'd also heard about "wreckers" and I didn't like the idea of someone ruining something that I thought was really cool, GT Racing. So I took the leap of faith and clicked the "Internet" button on the front page of my GTR2 screen, and up came a list of potential servers about 3kms long if I were to print it out on paper... in fine print. LOL. So I started clicking to see what I could get into... Password needed this, password needed that. This would be harder than I thought. THen I stumbled onto www.simracing.org.uk. I clicked around and found www.nogripracing.com and then onto www.rscnet.com and on some small obscure thread that I just happened to click on, some guy was talking about higher end quality servers for sime racing. He mentioned R2P. So I figured sure why not. 2 clicks later and I'm reading what it takes to race at R2P. 2 more clicks and I'm setting up a basic membership. Hey it was free and I might as well give it a shot. One race, and I'm hooked. Now I've got a Standard membership and an online place to call home. |
hah welcome! | ||
Welcome, Matt! You came to the right place! Sounds like maybe we're going to need some pictures of those custom trucks you build :)
My thought too Michael. Yes Matt, R2P is much more than just sim racing. Sharing life experiences, hobbies, and CUSTOM CAR photos is a big part here as well. BTW, Is that a 1979 Ligier F1 with a Ford 3 liter cosworth in the background photo? Also, welcome to the club! You'll like it here very much.
Nice story,welcome Matt
You've definitely come to the right place, Matt, there's always someone around here to offer help & advice. And hang on to the wife, she sounds like a good 'un :)
Thanks guys. Its great to find a place and group of people to have fun and learn with. Pete - you're a amazing teacher and great racer. even if I'm not such a great student. Micheal - below is a link to my own truck. It was the first truck I did when I was 21yrs old. I still have it, and I'm in the process of re-doing it. And those will be the pics you see in the link. You'll probably have to cut and paste it. I have pics of some other trucks I've built and/or helped build, but I'm not sure how to post them up here. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2202639 Charlie - yes that is a pic of a 79 Ligier F1. Its one of my favorite pics because of the detail... and it pertains to racing... of course.
Great little text there Matt, happy to have you on the R2P series... I think we already had some races together too.
Welcome Matt to the best sim racing family on the internet.
