GTR2 and FPS
01:00 AM on Dec 29, 2006

I now have GTR2, and all i can say is wow is it FPS hungery. especially with rain driving. i've tired everything to get FPS atleast into the 50's, but when around lots of "stuff" all i get is in the 30's, which sucks. any tips, i'm already running in DX7, with low Rez track textures, shadows and SE's off. i dunnow what else to try :(.

Tips? Replace that 9600PRO with something decent, like 9800PRO LOL

For the rain FPS turn down special effects if not already done. Draw distance set at "very far" as it should?

Minimum FPS usually is dependent on your cpu. Any Athlon XPs just don't cut it anymore. P4s and AMD64s struggle a little bit also, I think.

Number of visible cars has huge impacts on FPS. Also having VERTEX DAMAGE and SIMPLE DEBRIS COLLISION enable also has pretty big impacts on FPS. Make sure TRACKSIDE ANIMATIONS are turned OFF.

And as Ari said, teh "older" cpu's just dont seem to work very well with GTR2.

Good luck!

Yeah, I think that simple debris collision should be turned on for everyone. I have a top-of-the-line and I keep it on. Trackside animations don't seem to matter much so I have them on for now.

Reflections at low is a good tip for losing a bit less fps while it's bucketing down.

well, my FPS varies about 30 FPS in the dry to 50 FPS in the rain. I'm running a 64bit athlon 3200+ but it's on a 754 board. guess i'll just try to avoid rain races.

Well, are you able to at least drive the car decently with low FPS? Is there a lot of stuttering? I have pretty low ones, too, around the 40 range and 30s with rain and I don't have much trouble driving because it is not stuttering a whole lot. If you aren't having that problem, just stick with it.

it's dirivable alone on track, i dunno how it will be with other cars around. of course some tracks the FPS is better than others.
