g25 vs act labs
09:08 PM on Jan 03, 2007

i own a act labs setup and i am curious how it compares to the logitech g25?? looks like logi tried to mimic the act labs setup to me, not that that is a bad thing, mine has been running for years now, except for shifter...daughter dropped a nickle in it and it no longer works even after replacing springs. I used to run force feedback but don't do it now, it will tear a desk apart the way it works. just curious to opinions to another custom built serious sim racer controller that is "affordable"

WoW, you and I are on some kind of twin voodoo or something. lol

My ActLabs gave up the ghost yesterday, gears in the FF broke and whir and spin and put up quite a racket.

So today I just ordered the G25, should have it Mon or Tues.

Everything I have heard about the G25 is positive, with the exception of the shifter, and you could still use your Act Labs shifter if you wanted to.

I had pretty good luck with the MoMo black wheel, cept for the pedal unit.

I am ready to move on to the G25 because with each unit I have had, something has broken down and the G25 looks to be built really solid.

P.S. If you wanna wait a week or so, I will give you feedback on how the G25 compares to the ActLabs ForceRS as soon as I recieve it.

cool i apreciate it, the rest of my rig works fine except for the shifter, shifting gears with spare change in the houseing didn't turn out well. i know act labs is releasing a new shifter also. other than that, she works fine, reason act labs didn't make many setups, they dont break!

Unfortunately I can't comment on the comparison of the G25 and the act, but I can say that the G25 is a very impressive wheel for the price. At 300 dollars it offers everything that I wanted...smooth presice movement (abeit some harsh force feedback when not properly setup) and the attached shifter is great - smooth engagement through the gates (up to 6 speeds) or the choice of sequential shifting at a switch of a lever (cool idea). Also the pedals are much more realistic than the old plastic ones - much stiffer but allow decent feel. The clutch may leave a little to be desired but for the money is in no way poor. I think it is a great wheel for the price and it feels with the leather wrapped wheel...just my .02

I can compare the 2 directly, having used the full Act-Labs setup several years ago (wheel, performance pedals, and shifter), and having recently bought the G25. The G25 wheel is hands down better than the AL one (bigger radius, more comfortable to grip, MUCH better FFB), and the G25 the pedals are much better than the AL ones. The AL shifter was better, in my opinion, as it was much more meaty and gave you a more positive engagement. Although if you're more into paddle shifters than direct shifting with a stick, I can say that the ones on the G25 would be almost impossibly to beat. They're big (Ferrari style) and have a very noticeable, positive engagement. In fact, given how solid the rest of the G25 is, it's surprising that the shifter is not designed better than it is (again, this is only my opinion, and others may differ).

The G25 took me a couple of weeks to get used to, but once I did I was convinced that it was the best $300 I could have possibly spent on this hobby.
