Problem with Patch to v1.1 for GTR2
02:45 AM on Jan 14, 2007

I was wondering if anyone else was having a problem upgrading to version 1.1 for GTR2. I just wanted to play some online games and version 1.0 is apparently no longer accepted and for some reason when I install the patch for the english box version the program will no longer run and crashes immediately. Anyone else have this problem?

not had problems myself, but i would suggest a fresh install of the game, and add the patch at the same time.

Also, make sure to run the Config.exe again too. It may not have kept your video config after patching.

I also have had random crash's in GTR2. Can't say for sure if it's been since the 1.1 patch though.

It usually happens when clicking on something, then it just freezes, totally locking up the PC. Only a shutdown and restart will work after that!

Luckily, this has not happend while online, only during offline sessions.

Thanks all - I'll try applying the patch since I reinstalled it today...I'll make sure that config.exe is also registering the correct graphics config.

There is a pretty long thread at RSC about some problems associated with the patched version. I think many of the users had some sort of disk imaging software installed, even DVD recording suites like Nero, that the new version of Copy Protection would treat as a threat.

Most people have gotten it working via various solutions.

Hey Dave, Thanks I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software several times to no avial...but I'll try your suggestions. I have two DVD burners with myriads of DVD recording software along with some imaging software as well so I'll try disabling all of these and I'll update this blog if I find out which if any software is affecting GTR2...

Well it was a piece of software running on the machine - it was an older version of a virtual image software that was causing the program to crash - once uninstalled it runs perfectly. Thanks all for the help.

Glad you found it. So many people complaigned about the Starforce copy protectio on GTR and GTL that Simbin chose another company to provide protection. Nobody thought there could be other protections out there that are just as intrusive as Starforce and possibly even more aggressive.
