Suzuka - GT Sprint Post Race
12:05 AM on Nov 16, 2009

After Kierons recent post on his greatest race here at R2P, I decided 2 hours before the race, I was going to run the Endurance Series Mod used by the ever popular Sunday Night Series, here at our beloved Race2Play, the very same series that brought Kieron a huge amount of entertainment.

The scene opens at Suzuka.......

Quali] After running 2:02's quali pace I thought I had a great chance to mix with the top boys in the GT2 class, here at Suzuka. On my first flying lap, coming into the last chicane, my computer froze on me, sending me hurtling down the escape road and ruining my lap. I instantly dived into the pits for some new Super Soft rubber and set about getting in One flying lap before the end of quali. Coming into the 'Hairpin' I was wipped out by a Temp car who appeared from no where, ending my qualifying attempt there and then.

Race] As I was starting 2nd to last, I was frustrated even more so by the rolling start as I knew this would push me further away from the leaders of the GT2 class, and I thought all hopes of a Class win had vanished.

We set off, cleanly and smoothly for our warm up lap, building tyre and brake temperature focusing myself on the race ahead. Coming out of the 'Hairpin' both the drivers ahead of me got into each other causing both to spin after the contact was made. I passed both of them and rejoined the back of the group ready to take the start.

Coming out the 'Casio Triangle' to take the green flag I tapped the back of Douglas, luckily he managed to save the slide and we both pushed on after I let him go ahead. Managed to pass him into 'First' and set about charging up the field. Next up was Rogier de Klein. Luckily for me on that very lap Rogier ran wide at 'Degner 2' letting me duck up the inside and setting my sights on the pack ahead.

After a couple of laps I managed to close in on the battle involving Dan Minton, Sam Moss and Dave Robinson, allowing me to make it a 4 way battle. I managed to out drag Sam down the 'Crossover' and he let me slide up the inside into '130R'. After being caught up by a back marker through 'Casio Triangle' Sam and Dave managed to get passed me as I was pushed wide on the Exit. Coming into 'First' the back marker lost his braking point slamming into the back of Sam, causing him to take out Dave too, I think Toni Talivite was also tangled up in this incident aswell. I managed to duck up the inside and latch onto the back of Dan Minton who was running 4th In class.

After following Dan for 10 laps, we managed to get passed Phillip Cullen as he made an error on the exit of 'First' letting us slip by to take 3rd and 4th. Very unlucky as Phil was having a great race. A couple of laps later I managed to get a nice drag off of Dan and slid up the inside into 'First'. We were both locking brakes, on the edge of our limits, Dan as always, gave me enough space and as always respected others around him. Tip of the hat to you Sir.

After getting passed Dan, I was suprised to find Kieron and Sammuel only 3 Seconds up the road from me! Unfortuantly Dan had engine troubles, leaving me on my own to push all the way to the front.

With 4 Laps to go I was on the tail of the battle for 1st. I sat waiting, thinking, and watching what they were both doing. Some places I was faster, others they were faster. That Spyker sure has some straight line speed!

2 to go, Barney Fox, GT2 leader and Victory was on my heels. Going down the 'Crossover' I decided to let him passed and me try and follow him through Kieron and Sammuel, unfortunatly I ran wide on the Exit of 'Casio Triangle' costing me valuable seconds and any chance of a win. Sammuel and Kieron were pushing the very limit on that last lap and it was a great spectacle to behold.

I've never had such a hard fought race than this one. This will give me alot of pleasant memories for the future thats for sure!

Congrats to Barney for a fantastic and dominating win, and Sammuel and Kieron for an astonishing lesson in race craft tonight.

I hope this can give you a taste of the excitement I had during this event.

Thankyou for reading :-)

Great write up James, nice one.

Don't know what it is about this series but I've not had a duff race yet. Everyone of them has been full of great racing and unforgettable action. The mod is Awesome and the tracks that Sam has chosen are spot on, Nice one Sam :D.

It was good to get to race you again anyway James, not done that for a while now but glad you've found this series.

Was looking in my mirror a lot when I noticed you moving up the field and I was sure I was going to have a job on my hands trying to fend you off. I got lucky this time I think though :).

Cya at the next one.
