WELL IF I DON'T DO IT NOW I NEVER WILL! Hi everyone I've been driving Sims for the last 22yrs, my first being REVs by Geoff Crammond :-) and all the others in between. I've raced in offline leagues but I've never raced online! I guess I just didn't want to make a fool of myself and feel as though I was getting in peoples way. I have a decent PC, Frex's SimConMotion with all the bells n whistles but there's still something missing - and thats all of you guys! So Here I am but still feeling a little apprehensive and I'm hoping you guys can help. Obviously most of you have gone through the noob phase and others are going through it now. As I have said I have absolutely no experience of online racing at all I'm just about to read the 'Codes and Regulations' but I would really appreciate any advice on where to begin as far as racing is concerned and for those that are just ahead of me embarking on their own online career what problems caused you the most hassle I think you get the idea and thanks in advance |
Welcome! Feel free to read a few items that were just written about over the past few days:
Other then that, it is a normal AI race but the AI is much more 'intelligent' (or less sometimes). Jump on the servers and turn some laps with the guys during testing sessions. Ask them questions, and even ask to run nose-to-tail with them. If you have nay questions, please feel free to ask, either on the Groups or email me directly.
It can be intimidating.I still vividly remember my 1st online GPL experience.Joined a Monza server full of myself thinking i was fast and how i would blow these guys away.Distressed to say the least when i found i was at least 5-6sec off the pace. Then i noticed the chat with people saying "po".I'm thinking, who are they talking to and if it's me why are they telling me to "piss off".Bewildered,i left the server and sat there wondering what i had done.I tried twice in the next two days with the same result before i discovered they were saying "pit out".Anyway, with this lot,you won't need to feel left out.

Welcome Chris!!! :- ) You are about to begin a fantastic ride with the R2P gang! Don't worry about your performance in the online races, there are some really fast guys here, just keep your eyes on your mirrors and you'll be OK. Just like Tim said, it's just like AI, but we humans can really screw up sometimes... lol. The rest of us, the not so fast or coordination challenged, have a ball here because everyone is treated equally. The main thing is to Race2Play and have FUN!!! : ) Cu at the races, Dan
Welcome Chris!! Big thing is simply to have fun!!! No matter what, jsut have fun. Understand that you will have some good races and you will have some bad races, and some days you will have some REALLY bad races. Take the good with the bad and have FUN!! Just learn to be patient on the race track. Understand that every corner is NOT necessarily a passing opportunity, understand that you dont have to lead going into the first corner on the first lap to win a race, and understand that you MUST first FINISH the race to finish first. Focus more on driving any race at the pace you are comfortable with and not so much on every body else's lap times. Be aware that there will be people in front of you that you are trying to pass AS well as people behind you trying to pass you, sometimes at the SAME time. All in all, JUST HAVE FUN!!! There are, oh a billion or so folks here to help you with ANY question or situation. Just ask, and you WILL get ALOT of helpful advice and assistance. Now, check your schedule, pick a race, sign up and HAVE SOME FUN!!! P.S. - Do your self and ALL the other competitors a big favor, by reading ALL of the available HOW TO's, GUIDE's, RULES and REGULATIONS, etc. posted here at R2P. You will gain some confidence before you even race, AND most importantly you will gain the respect from the other competitors that have ALSO taken the time to read everything as well. Enter a race PREPARED and I guarantee that you will enjoy yourself! :-)
I really appreciate your comments guys I'm starting to feel at home already :-) I have read everything I can find on the site and tried to commit it to memory, the last thing I want to do is foul up someone's race. The one thing that really suprised me but made perfect sense when I thought about was to keep on the racing line and drive my own race but be aware of drivers coming up behind. I would have tried to do their overtaking for them by pulling off line or lifting off which would undoubtedly have caused them more trouble. Well I guess the only thing I can do now is jump in and get some experience - I'm so looking forward to this, I have put it off for far too long! |
