Won't be for a lack of equipment: RCR car and engine.

I wish him well. :-)

yeah no dout its an older car tho ... but im sure the engine is up too date for the most part.

still i find it odd of all the tracks the guy could try to q for he picks daytona.gonna be at least 60 or so cars tryin to get in the race.then if he makes it you cannot practice for what happens in the race there with a 43 car draft up until the race itself will be the only time he gets to see what thats like IF he makes it. id feel better if he was tryin to run Martinsville or something that whud make more since to me.the guy was rookie of the year in 1966 :) also read he ran an entire season in one car and one engine and never broke a thing so i dont dout his driving .

otherwise for this incredible story seems like a normal speedweeks im ready to get it going.same old stuff every sports caster you see cept the ones that used to race puttin big deals on practice speeds at daytona when it dosent mean jack .they get told that at least once a year by Rusty or Dallenbach but its always the first thing they drag open as a big deal .

Pretty obvious why he picked Daytona....biggest stock car race there is, very likely that there will be a big one taking out many drivers and finally last years lowest earning finisher was $245,633. Not a bad paycheck IF he can find a way in.

Also, Daytona is the least 'physical' of all races. By his own admittance, its easier on him than a driver's track like Charlotte or Martinsville.

yeah, i dont question the guys intent it is the "BIG RACE" but also i dont see it being about the money its a nice side effect but hes 72 after all and i dont see money as a motive.

if he happend to make this id hope he whud be givin options of starting dead last to get a feel for a 43 car draft before being right in the middle on lap one.

while it might be less phisical than some tracks its def the most mental of the tracks they go to and obviously one of the more dangerous types of racing they do.
mental mistake at tona is a big deal and usally ends at best in 10s of millions in damage...
but a mistake at Marty or Rich will be alot less eventful are my only thoughts on that. more power to the guy if he gos out and gets er done,i def be one to be in awe if he even finishes the duel.

well second thoughts it could be all a non issue im sure the guys physically and mentally prepared i dont know him very well at all . i just pic my grandad in a 190 mph stock car and it makes shiver a bit :)

this sounds like something he's been preparing for im sure... so will just hafe too see def wishin him the best of luck these next few weeks shud be fun to watch.

Not all 72 year olds are decrepit. Especially with our current knowledge of nutrition, health, and medicine 75 will soon be the "middle aged" marker which is currently considered to be around 50. I'm sure he's going to race for the thrill of it more than anything else. But, I'm also sure that his sponsors are thinking of the advertising they can get from the special circumstances. It should be a win/win situation.

I also think he's a great candidate for sim racing...less physically demanding...less risk...less cost.
