Cockpit complete
06:19 PM on Mar 07, 2007

Well cockpit is now fully functional. So what the verdict... worth doing, well yes imho.

It hasn't made me suddenly faster probably a little slower tbh, (new driving position etc.) but because everything is fixed in place muscle memory comes into play more which means so does consistancy. Also I am no longer limited to 1hr races due to numb arse syndrome!

This is what I used to race with...

The new rig...

.

Craig trying out dads new toy when he got in from work...

.

Subwoofer underneath seat which gives great feedback when going over rumbles strips and curbs...

And finally the drivers eye view whilst er... driving :)

Still got some finishing up to do. Cover and paint screw heads, tidy up cables etc. but for the main part it's finished. Still debating whether or not to build a side console or not. I've got a nice little, (7"x4") keyboard lined up along with a trackball so I can get rid of all the bulky stuff off of the desk.

Oh and if anybody was wondering total cost including the "new" seat was about £110. Should be comfortable for anybody from 5'8" - 6'4" as seat is fully adjustable. Limited to about a size 10 shoe though because of the height of the pedals.

So what do you think?

Wicked...How about a shot of how you hung the pedals...

The pedals are pretty easy. Undo the casing, swap the clutch and throttle over, do the casing back up and then just turn the pedal plates upside down.

Pedal unit is then ready for mounting upside down.

The unit itself has 6 bolt holes for mounting, rather than trying to guess or measure the hole positions I found it easier to use a bit of A4 and a pencil. Just lay the paper over the back of the unit and do a "brass rubbing" this way you get an exact template of the holes which is easy to move about.

Drill you holes in the wood your going to mount them on and bobs your uncle.

Sorry can't really do a detail pic without taking everything to bits again.

To help anyone else with mounting the G25 and it's pedals, there are templates for the mounting holes on the CD that comes with the wheel.

Size 10 only? Well that would rule me out... (size 14)

It looks really nice, good combination between practicality and sim racing nut-job :D

I personally would have invested in a proper set of pedals (I've got ECCIs), and I prefer the DFP to the G25, but its looks really great, I'm highly envious :-)

Doh! And I thought I'd been such a clever-dick with my "brass rubbing" method lol
