rFactor and GTR2 Engine Spec. Analysis

I'm just sharing what I'm learning about the different cars available in GTR2 and the F1'05 mod for rFactor. What I've done is create an Excel spreadsheet with some formulas and make a tab for each car then copy the engine file contents into it and do a little formatting.

Basically, formulas calculate the horsepower, then in the next column formulas add up the 4 (5 for rFactor) previous horsepower numbers to get a total horsepower for an RPM range of 1,500 (2,000 for rFactor) RPM which is what is usually geared up for the top gears...it may be beneficial to increase the range that the total HP formulas calculate to compare how long it takes for some engines to develop HP depending on RPM.

In the next column you will find 3 HP spread formulas...the full range, and the two half ranges between the middle and the two ends.

I've also copied the other info in the rFactor engine spec files into the spreadsheet for easy comparison...didn't do that with the GTR2 file yet.

Oh...and when you download the files the extension will be .DOC (fileshack just won't leave the extension alone) so after you download the files change the extension to .xls. Anyway...here's the files:

rFactorF105EngineSpecs.xls

GTR2EngineSpecs.xls

It is interesting to note that the Farrari and Sauber both have identical engine files. It is also worth to note that the Willimas, Renault, and Minardi have 6 gears while the rest of the cars have 7. Also, keep in mind that boost increases RPM and HP as well as engine wear and fuel consumption.

GTR2, the engines all have the same life. Stupid, but simbin apparently felt a game with endurance racing didn't deserve accurate engine life variances.

Steve, for F105, if you're planning on joining us online, don't worry about the differences. We're using the server edition of CTDP 05, which means we're all using McLaren engine/physics.

Ah...thanks Jerry. I knew there was something about an "SE" thing and apparently it's when selecting the series in rFactor. But, I didn't know it extended to the engine file. We can modify the setups though can't we? I mean...it's OK if I add/subtract camber and add/subtract wing and stuff right?

If I read it correctly the McLaren really improves with boost, so that is another thing I've never used before...except briefly in Toca3. I have a lot of work cut out for me before I can increase the fun factor in the F1 races.

I watched the replay from the Nuerburg race and thought there was some real good driving from everyone. I'll definitely work my way up to give you guys another vehicle to pass as soon as I can safely do so.
