I try to think of my driving as very respectful of those around me. I even goes so far as to allow someone an easy, uncontested pass for position if they are clearly faster than I. When lapping cars I try to do it in a straight under braking so the driver ahead knows whats coming. Of course if I should contact another while competing for a position I will slow and wait, this simply out of respect and to express my sorrow for the incident. I have recently suffered a penalty for wreckless driving. While I admit the move I made was a bit wreckless, the bottom line is that I considered the situation, made my move and no harm was done to anyone. I am not proud of the move, but it is done now. And I probably wouldn't attempt it again, regardless of the fact that a penalty might be assessed. But this whole thing caused me to question my driving in regards to how others see it, so I am writing about it. Am I someone that makes you nervouse when I approach you? When you approach me, are you afraid I will make an eratic move that you aren't expecting? Do I dive bomb you unexpectedly in corners where I have no business doing so? Be honest guys, I am 43 years old I can take critisism. I just want to know so I can adjust my style to avoid being tagged a "wreckless" driver. |
I am not familiar with the "move" you speak of, so I cant comment on it, but I will say that I do NOT, and have NEVER thought of you as "wreckless". Frankly, I wouldnt even put you in the "aggressive" category. You drive, at least from what I see, a very consistent and predictable line. And to me, that predictability is oh so important, for both clean, hard, same class racing; and clean passes in multiple class racing. The fact that you are questioning your driving is a good thing. I mean now, you will be a little too careful, slowing your pace to the point where I should be able to complete on the same level with you now. Keep up the questioning and your insecurity please! LOL! ;-)
I'd drive door to door with you any day Kent... in fact we have many times :-)
Are you nuts!? Kent, you're one of the cleanest drivers out there. We're ALL gonna have a hiccup or two once in a while.

In most races, i struggle with Kent lol. Nearly we have same speed mostly and im one of the driver who should give comments here. Actually, i can say that u dont specially make me nervous Kent while u are chasing me. Every1 makes me nervous in this situation. Because, a little mistake ruin both ppls race. Adding to that when i am chasing u i never saw an eratic move from u or i dont remember lol. I know some races, Kent was clearly faster than me but didnt make a dangerous move even chasing me whole race. So i can say that he was just unlucky these days and got penalty. All of us sometimes lose patience, but this never be our general behaviour. I suffered badly these days for being hit, but its racing. These things happen.
We battled for 25 or so laps @ Oschers S3, you were cearly faster than me and very fair. I've never seen you done anything reckless.
If I understand the word correctly I would think we all strive to be wreckless. If, however, you meant reckless...then no, you are not reckless in the least...You have always been a fair and very fast driver...
I'm new here and had to look up your real name. Kent Welker! You are awesome. And, when you are going that fast mistakes are awesome too. Don't let it bother you, it can happen to anyone. An example is in the Estoril race on Saturday Tolga was right behind you I believe and I swung wide to let you by and Tolga followed...you kept almost 2 feet away from me, but Tolga was just inches away from me...mostly made me feel like I should have pulled over more to be fair. If Tolga was just a few vertual inches closer then we would have hit...it would have just been a racing incident. And, if that happened just once then no problem...I think if it happens several times in a race then the racing stewards may feel that safety is being compromised. Certainly, we are all safe in our virtual cockpits, but I suppose the same understanding can be applied. However, I do think that myself for example should be given a wreckless driving penalty just for being on the track sometimes as we try to catch up to you aliens. Perhaps we all need some humble pie every now and then to recall ourselves to the principle for which we are here. To have fun. And, to be honest anyone approaching me gets me nervous. :) Though I'm sure with experience I'll be a lot calmer.
Kent the Gent just about says it all :)
I don't know when you would have had the opportunity "to allow someone an easy, uncontested pass for position if they are clearly faster than I" :/ You are one of the great racers here at R2P that I feel completely comfortable with in tight situations. Just like I remember the scarey guys, I also know who I can race closely with and that will be clean and respectful. You are at the top of that list. I am glad to see you are concerned about this and took the time to ask. I sometimes wonder how I am perceived by my peers here and can only hope that if I posted the same question I would get similar responses to what you did.
Oh dear, now you guys are just giving Kent a big head! LOL! ;-) |
