Norton AntiVirus HELP!
05:59 AM on Mar 17, 2007

Once again today (GT3 Cup Dubai) I got dumped to desktop by Norton AntiVirus (this is the third time now) starting a Full System Scan and this is with the Auto Protect turned off!

Is there something I can do about this?

Is it something that the server is causing?

Also

The same thing is happening with a subscription reminder (that has happened once) it just pops up and throws me back to desktop and my car into the wall!

I hope someone can help me or I'll have more DNFs than starts! The alternative will be ugly and the cat has had a hard enough life as it is already!!

Disable Norton before you go online.

Right click and disable, then "Ctrl" + "Alt" + "Del", find processes related to Norton and "kill" them (right click and "End process") before you go online.

Disable any automatic scans/updates in the program. Also check your scheduled tasks in control panel, programs may install tasks there.

Isn't there anyway to deprioritize a program so it doesn't pop up and minimize what you are currently doing back to the desktop? I have a similar issue with a few programs, including my AV, Kaspersky, and it gets quite annoying :(.

Norton' came installed on my computer. To my mind it's more like a virus itself.I had the devils own job uninstalling it,just didn't want to go.Not that this helps you.

I use to have that Norton problem. All you need to do is set the time for scans at a time when you're not likely to be racing. Like 4 am or something, even if you don't have your computer on at that time. This way Norton will only init. on it's own at that time. If it finds itself behind...it will init. the next time at start-up instead. You will then see it and let it run or stop, your choice. At least you won't be on-track!

Here's how I fixed my Norton problems...

I omitted step 3, however.

Thanks guys. I'll try re-scheduling Dean that should do the trick.

Don't know why I didn't think of that myself, oh I remember - cos I'm a dope ;-)

Thanks for your help all

Chris

Anti virus programs are leaches. They do a piss poor job of protecting your pc, anything short of 100% protection and it's useless, and it just sucks up resources like Rosie O'Donnel at an all you can eat buffet. Kinda like the national missile defense shield. :P
