Phases

Do you ever find that you go through phases of liking certain things a certain way, then suddenly find them completely uninteresting?
I had a wierd experience in the GTX Estoril race today. I was going along just fine in my Lambo, climbing my way through the field, having some nice battles along the way. But I couldnt really get my head into it, I never got that rush of adrenaline you get when you are totally immersed in the game and just have to gain every tenth you possibly can... I just felt like some guy sitting in a desk chair logging laps on a computer game... ya know, been there, done that syndrome... and it was increadibly boring.
I remember back before R2P I was always a member of TM.net (precursor to R2P incase anyone didnt know), but I never really raced here that much becuase I was too busy practicing for my Super Endurance leagues (WOSEC & SSCA). I liked the comunity here a lot, and I enjoyed the racing, but I was never in love with the one dimesional races on offer here (get in car, race for an hour, everything sorts itself out at half way, drive carefully home). When R2P started I suddenly got the massive inspiration to do this type of racing again, because the comunity at this place was just so great I couldn't ignore it. And it was all really excellent, great races, etc etc. But all of a sudden, over the last week or so, I've just grown tired of it... maybe it's just a phase... or maybe the last few months where just a phase...
Whatever, all I know is that I just wasted about 3 hours of my life on Estoril which I gave up on, and the same on Oscherlaben GT-O yesterday...
Can anyone relate?

It could be the drugs Scott?

Are you taking enough of them?

Happened to me all the time Scott. A vacation always helps, even from your hobby. I use to take a few months off sim-racing every year... cant say Ive done that in the past 2 years since GTR/rFactor, but it's nice to have a breather.

Been there Scott, done what Tim said, vacation. Usually between seasons I don't drive at all.

Simply take a break. That's all. I'm hitting the same sort of "wall" where it just feels like I'm going through the motions.

Benn there. But you can't break just yet 'cause S4 is but a few races away from ending. Until then, water down schedule a bit and don't burn yourself out with practice.

Hell, with my connection, I'm just grateful for any races I can get!

Indeed vaild and obvious points fellas :) Yeah taking a break is a option but I don't feel thats the true underlying problem.

I can relate in that you specifically mentioned GTR and boy am I in the same boat...I still race all other sims tbh so its not exhaustion or anything.

tbh GTR2 is getting extremely boring, same drivers choosing same fastest cars 90% of the time, lack of variety is killing. Lack of post race excitement says it all, you race (mostly alone if your not in 550 :D)...hot lap, finish, log off. Sucks.

I've noticed the number of drivers drop alarmingly in GTR2 last week and im not surprised. I haven't for hte past 3 weeks felt the need to sacrifice time over weekends to do these races anymore...and i'm not sorry i did.

Suffice to say rFactor races are almost always full up... hmmmmmmm

Well Scotty, take some time off, your still young lol but after 3 weeks now I haven't felt the urge to jump back into GTR (although i have re-installed GTL which is still the best sim to date (racing wise :) )

Ooh, wasn't expecting so many replies :-)

@Chris: Maybe cold turkey wasn't the best idea... :P

@Tim, Enis & Ray: Yeah, a break sounds nice... if only there was something else to do in England :P

@Garry: Couldn't care less about the S4 points tbh. You show me a series where I could win the championship and I'll finish it (I think GT-H is the only one where I'm even close).

@Pete: Yeah, after reading blogs like you usually post I do often count my blessings!!!

@Grecian: GTR2 is definatley a better game than rF, but the nature of the FIA GT series does lead to very dull races for some reason... they are more interesting cars, more fun to drive, and yet V8Factor, FBMW, etc get better racing! I really think encouraging people to run slower cars (a rank multipier, for example) would make GTR2 racing much more interesting... why do you think GTL races are so fun? The variety of cars mostly!

I'm defiantley gonna water down my schedule a whole lot and try to come back stronger than ever for S5, so you'd all better watch out ;-)

You'll need more people than just me to drop out to get a chance Sam ;-)
