I keep getting the USB Disconnect alarm. How can I track down the offending device and then find out why it's doing it? This is doing my head in!! and if I don't get this sorted out soon the PC is heading for a damn good thrashing!!! |
Best place to start would be the Device Mangler .. err .. Manager... Right Clk My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager button. Watch for a device name that connecting and disconnecting. If that doesnt give you enough info, try the Add Hardware console; Control Panel > Add Hardware. That might give more info. I would absolutely unplug any unused USB devices though prior to starting this process...I would say only mouse/keyboard if at all possible, and if it stops giving you the sound, then start plugging in the USB devices one at a time until it happens again and then reinstall the drivers for that device for starters. Enjoy!
I've tried the device manager. However when I get the disconnect sound the whole of the device manager goes off then on again not just a single device? I thought maybe XP records the disco somewhere?
In the refresh of Device Mgr it will refresh the whole list, yes .. agreed its a pain in the p00per, but it *should* still show some sort of device being connected / disco'ed. Otherwise proceed with the one by one connections too.
Yep I think its "Process Off Elimination" time then! I thought there might be an easier way. So - it's on me hands and knees behind me rig... All this will be done by thought control one day you know
