After driving in many R2P races and stewarding many others, I have noticed a steady decline in many driving aspecs. I am not here to name names or anything, and I have no interest in flaming anyone, this is just an observers point of view. The biggest thing I have noticed is a huge lack of patients when overtaking. This is especially true in the doubleheader series when the fast drivers are placed at the back (either because of an accident in race 1 or the grid inversion). I have seen many instances of blatent ramming and very poor judgement of passing attemps. Most of these can't be explained away as simple mistakes either, as many are repeat offenders. Although these drivers (who are the definite minority here) do get penalties during or after the races, the race is already ruined for the other drivers involved. I have also noticed many drivers that have no interest in giving an inch on track. I'm not saying to make passing easy, but maybe giving up once the position is lost and focus on your counter attack. Slamming the door once the passing driver is already along side is pointless and foolish as it will only end in your demise. But as with the negative, there is a huge positive. Those of us that know how to race fair and clean have great fun during the races, and we almost always finish (every once in a while a mistake is made). I have had wonderful battles with many drivers here like Bruce Fisher, Grecian Worship, George Sandman, Tim McArthur, etc... the list goes on. I have to say I have had more fun racing here in the last 4 monthes than in my whole online career. It seems like every week I have the battle tooth and nail with someone, which is what it's all about here. I think the main problem is everyone is taking this way too seriously and forgeting why we are all here. We are all here to have fun a play together and it's a lot more fun for everyone if we all play nice. Well thats my rant, i'm very curious about the comments I'll get. |
"I think the main problem is everyone is taking this way too seriously and forgeting why we are all here. David, have you seen this: "R2P Ideas and Suggestions" > "Postrace protests, rules and lawlessness" My contribution to that thread is basically like you say... "it's a lot more fun for everyone if we all play nice." After the last F1 race, I know how bad it feels to wreck someones race - in 3 separate incidents with 5 different people (one of which has the initials TM!!!) : ( Dan
Woot, i'm so PRO!!! :) From my perspective there are too many that want to win at all costs! I could name them all off by heart. The first thing I do when I join a server is see whos there that should be avoided on track :( Sad yes but its the only way to survive the race. I should add as well that the stewards have been doing a great job in applying the rules to those in the wrong. Their job is quite difficult and i applaude them! The best racing i've had here is in the rF3 East series, purely because the guys are so respectfull and at the same time fast!!!! ..and its the man reason I still race at R2P as I was gonan pack it up anyway.
QUITTING IS NOT AN OPTION
Wow Radius I am surprised to hear that :( David you need to ad Al Holberts Lowenbrau car to this page :)
Yeah Kent, got a bit disgruntled with online racing mainly due many other more important things in my life that HAS to take preference! What Banta mentions is very important and for me the East guys are sooooooooo cool to race against :D The guys in Euro dont make jokes anymore lol and I was told to shut up LOL :\ ...but this thread is not about me :))
Those dirty Europeans...
You know what I've said all along Dave. This goes all the way back to the open lobby pre TM.net days. There are plenty of guys who are very fast and know how to pass. But haven't the first clue how to be passed safely.
I completely agree with David. Driving fair and trying to protect your place in same time is hard as hell but real fun. I am actually racing in the front row mostly and there r not much ppl who makes these kind of bad things. I mean they try to avoid all accidents. For my opinion i can say that the most important thing causes these crashes is inexperince of the drivers. Because no1 hits others on purpose, the hitting is about losing control of the car by misjudging or having very unstable setup etc. Many times i saw that: in the straight a driver is going on best line, and his rival comes and gets inside with late braking before the curve and the guy in best line doesnt change his line and hit the guy who is inside, and go out of the track. These kind of things are about inexperince of the driver and can be avoid easily by going a bit wide. Surely there r some ppl who takes racing here too serious and shows lack of patience while overtaking and sometimes we can call this as a unrespect to other drivers. But i can easily say that there r great amount of fair drivers here. I spoke too much but didnt say anything different than David, lol thats why i started with i completely agree with David. I am srry to hear this Rad, tell me how much east guys paid for u to tell these things LOL :DDD
I use the same ideas as Radius ;-), i look at the grid and look for people who i know to avoid. those of you who saw me in the Barcelona Sprint race for the east would know, i don't even give the opportunity to get punted. i just let those few guys go as if i was being lapped. it's a sad truth, but you know what they say about Karma :) I have a feeling most of these guys are go-kart racers or have raced go-karts on the competeative level at one time. I can tell by their driving style and win at all cost attuide. I saw the same thing when i raced go-karts competatively nearly 10 years ago. i use to race against people that drove like this and once i did end up on my head. i was very lucky not to be hurt (i had minor bruses). it's not fun. My point is, the next Micheal Schumacher is not going to be found in a Sim Racing League, no matter how professional it is. So driving like your trying to move up through the ranks is pointless. There is no need to be ruthless on track. it's one thing to race hard, thats fun and leads to great replays, but to be ruthless ends up making you look like a fool and a wrecker.
Blah blah blah... drama queens. :P |
