Home Owner's Insurance

Wow. First time for everything I guess. I get utilize my home Owners insurance policy for the first time ever. My A/C evaporator drain has decided to plug up and "flood" my house and ruin the wood flooring in my entire Living Room and Foyer. I just put that wood floor down not 18 months ago. Ooohhh the fun part, they will be testing one of my 15 foot tall walls for mold. Man I hope they dont find any. That is the last thing I need is a bunch of construction workers tearing up the place replacing wood studs and drywall. Fortunately, the weather has turned somewhat nice with low humidity, so the wife and I will be able to live without the A/C while they fix everything. I love owning my own home, but man is it a pain in the ass sometimes!

Make sure you request the lab results for the mold test. Some of those guys are con men out to make a quick 10k.

Well, I got half the floor ripped up. Trying to let the slab dry. Now I must wait for the insurance adjuster to contact me. My rough estimate for fixing the damage is $765,000. Could have been worse I suppose.

I wish you the best of luck on your repairs.

The material doesnt cost that much. My labor costs have skyrocketed.

God's punishing you for thinking of quitting racing. ;)

Just kidding... Sorry to hear about your issues, but I can relate! I had a small leak in my hall bath and had to make a claim on that. Also had to shell out a big deductible for a new roof after a hail storm last year. Now I'm busting my keister getting the house in shape 'cause I'm selling it to move closer to town. Oy!! :\

It's nice to see someone who DOESN'T want mold in their house. Most people get lawsuit crazy (especially in TX) when mold is discussed and frivalous lawsuits have sent home insurance rates through the roof and many insurers won't even accept new clients!

Best of luck with it!

Tommy

Ya, that is my rough estimate. Will have more exact figures in a few days after the adjuster comes out.

(Please note that I make my living as a commercial construcion estimator).

I still can't comprehend how that kind of damage can cost that much to repair.
