Rfactor vs. Gtr2

It seems to me that Rfactor has a rougher crowd of drivers. Is it because it is easier to drive and people are pushing harder or does the game entice a crowd of lesser skill because of the ease of play.

I dont think it is rF or GTR that cause it, but the race format (and some people too of course). Our rF races are normally the open-wheel and touring car events. Both of these are events much shorter then even our shortest GTR2 event (G3 = 45 minutes, FT/FB/PPRC = 20-35 minutes). The sense of urgency is much higher in these "sprint" races. Getting stuck behind someone for a few laps is harder to recoup from so people tend to be more aggressive and make more mistakes because of it.

There is also the participants and where they are "raised". USA sim-racers tend to be much less aggressive mainly because of the motor sports were we raised on (CART, NASCAR, etc) where it is against the rules to be aggressive or block. People from other countries were raised on racing where aggression, bumping, blocking, etc are much less regulated if at all. Please understand I am not attempting to disrespect anyone here, it is just fact that different geographic areas are raised with different cultures and racing-culture is not excluded.

Race2Play has 2 big crowds from nations that I think fall into this category; The Russian guys and the Argentine guys. From all my stewarding I see it clear as day... the culture shock that is. These two groups have done a lot of rFactor racing here at R2P and not as much GTR.

Im not saying they are driving wrong or anything, they are just driving how they were raised by their 'culture'. Sometimes it clashes with our USA culture of racing, but that is not to say it is wrong. R2P regulates some things (blocking) but not others (aggression levels). They tend to take more risks in their racing and it pays off sometimes. Other times it backfires... and sometimes even takes out an innocent bystander or two. Just part of the joys in racing huh?

You learn who the guys are that you just need to give that extra room too, or some where you just need to get out of the way all together.

Paul, jump into an F1 79 and tell me how easy that is too drive, or the rF3, or even the Porsche cup.

it's funny, i use to think the same thing back in the GTR 1 days, lol.

Personally, I have never found any rFactor mod particularly easy, or satisfying, to drive. Compared to GTR1, maybe the differences weren't so great, but GTR2 is light years ahead.
RF just doesn't give me the feedback or confidence to push even close to the limit, the cars always seem to be floating just above the surface rather than attached to it. And then there are those bloody annoying slow speed spins which seem to afflict every mod...I mean, would a RL $100,000 race car really spin at 30mph with no gas or brake applied?
I guess at the end of the day it's just down to personal preference. But I do look forward to the day when a mod comes along that I can get really excited about. LMS? Champcar? NAGT? I sure hope so. For now, though, I'll stick with Simbin!

It kind of worries me if you prefer GTR2.

In my opinion, the grip of the GTR2 cars is just beyond unrealistic.

NAGT is going to have what I believe to be a good balance between easy and hard. Easy to run a decent lap, hard to run a race where you are going all out.

Most rF mods are 'incomplete' if you ask me. Basically they do drive OK but GTR2/GTL is superb in all aspects.

I think that Rfactor cars are easier to in a whole though dependent upon mod of course. I didn't say it was easier to drive well. For somebody to get and go, I have experienced with people I know, they are able to complete more clean laps not knowing a track, or have rode the car before. The sprint racing format in real life motor sports does have a lot of contact. I like both formats. The sprint is easier to me for the time being ;) as my consistency isn't quite there. It is like the running of the bulls. The longer races are like tortoise and the hare. See the rabbit run off and then play in the beach.

Interesting that this should pop up now here at R2P. SimHQ is doing a comparison between rFactor and GTR2 and some other sims. Read it here.
