Building New Computer
09:08 PM on Sep 15, 2007

After this mornings GT-O race when my frames per second slow to about 30 I decided it was time for an upgrade of some kind. I went to the local Fry's electronics to check out my options and "look around".... Well two hours and two thousand dollars later I came home with a whole trunk load of goodies. This is going to be my first computer build, and if I do it right it should smoke my current rig. I will post the list of parts later and keep you guys informed as to how it goes.

Wish me luck! :)

Two thousand dollars- damn, I'm sure it'll be a nice setup. I look forward to hearing what components you got. I wish I had a Fry's here in Flagstaff. Good luck on your build.

Well golly Michael,

Guess you won't be needing any help with your slothful old PC!

What a great new toy you rat!!!

Just take your time putting it together so you don't have a great big smoke bomb when you turn it on! LoL

Just kidding guy, I've put several rigs together and no problems yet - knock on wood!

And really, I'm not jealous at all, you double, double rat! hehehe

Ya, dont break any connectors. Fried a pefectly good PSU because I didnt notice I cracked the SATA power connector for a HD and it caught fire when I hit the power switch!

Well... the build has been put on hold for now. I have been working on it all morning. Slow and steady. I went to test fit the mobo and found that the mobo has ten holes and the case old has nine brass supports...

Do the brass standoff location's match your mobo? I will assume they do, would be very non-standard if they didn't.

There s/b extra holes in your case to match your mobo. Just add a brass standoff where needed.

6 support are preinstalled in the case. Plenty of extra holes in the case to add more supports where needed. Just one support short. Case came with nine and I need ten of them.

I wouldn't worry too much about a missing support as long as you can support the outside edges and somewhere in the middle.

An extra support can always be added later.

tks,

IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 :)

Edit: I am so happy right now! I could not have done it with out reading all of the tech support offered here at R2P. This is my very first computer build so I was nervous the whole time and really had no idea what was I was doing. I did a ton of research before I started the build, so just kept refering to my notes and the instruction. I thought the instruction for some of this stuff could have been a little more clear... I had to use some common sense and a little guess work, but when it booted up I almost hit the roof. Window is currently installing, then all the updating, so I might be gaming on it tomorrow night. Tuesday for sure!

Thanks guys for all your help!

Frames per second data and impressions still to come! :)

Congratulations Michael! : )

I'll never forget how worried I was with the 1st PC I ever built - that was in 1977!

In those days, you didn't just assemble pre-built components, you had to install and solder all the chips, diodes, resisters, etc to the motherboard and other parts of the PC!!!

Sure glad it's not like that anymore. LoL

Now it's time to have some fun with that new rig! : )
