I wanted to mention some things about college football this season and while we were discussing some of this in Jerry Chen's blog, I thought it would be more appropriate to post this particular video here. This is the response to the announcement that USC lost to Stanford this past weekend during the hotly contested LSU vs. Florida game. Obviously, the Tiger fans were a bit elated. Truth be told, so were the Gator fans. |
And here's an interesting article about a Gator fan visiting LSU and Death Valley (Tiger Stadium) for the first time. It shows that while Tiger fans are often described as psychotic and rabid and will chant "TIGER BAIT" at all opponent fans, they'll also give you a beer and some gumbo and respect the fact that you're supporting your team as much as we support ours. :) http://www.everydayshouldbesaturday.com/?p=3963
...and it just gets a little more interesting ;) How lame, the stadium staff lowers the goal posts themselves. pfft.. Fun game to watch though. I really prefer college FB's overtime procedure over the NFL's.
...and now it's even more interesting!
the Kal game proves why you don't start freshman quarterbacks ... Hilarious, Kal "Coug-ed it" (please refer to your Pac10 dictionary for the definition of "Coug-ed it", it's synonym can be found under W, for WSU). Apparently, being #1 in the nation for a grand total of 30 minutes was too much pressure. LOL! Suck on that hippies! :D SFU ... # ... 1? Go Bulls! Hehe, where's that SFU bandwagon Chris, I'm hoping on with Mark May. Lou Lispy McLisp needs to get his alzhemers medicine, he thinks the Gamecocks (hehe) should be in the top 5. WTF? Reality check on aisle 4 for Lou Holtz.
I think either Ohio State or Boston College will go to #1 since they are undefeated as well. I have absolutely not clue how the BCS works (does anyone?), so I don't know who will be placed where. SFU should certainly be up there and should stay up there, barring any upset they have in the coming weeks. They aren't really facing anyone good except for #15 Cincinnati. Does anyone here like the BCS? :P
I'll tell you who it's reality check time for: the unbeatens in the Pac-10 in the coming weeks, since both the as-yet-undefeated Bruins and Sun Devils have to start playing 1-A football teams beginning next weekend. Too bad for the Bulls, but they just don't play anybody for the rest of the year (no, I don't think Cincy is anybody). I wonder if they can continue to ride their upsets of Auburn and WV and hope they carry them to a big game come January? If South Carolina is going to be in the top five - and I'm not going to make any argument against that - then surely Kentucky is going to be right on their heels with the same overall record (albeit one less conference game). At least until they play Florida next week... The Third Saturday In October has now become a more monumental game than ever in the individual battles for both divisions of the SEC. Alabama shares the lead in the West with LSU and Auburn, while the Great Pumpkin and his Vols are engaged in an East threesome with 'cocks and 'cats. LSU plays Auburn that same day, USC plays Vandy (almost, fellas...) and despite two conference losses already, Florida can put themselves right back in the hunt with a win over the 'cats combined with a Tide win and the Commodores actually finishing a freaking game, which is highly unlikely away from West End. Two weeks ago Herbstriet said LSU's toughest game of the year was going to be in Tuscaloosa. Despite my desire to wholeheartedly agree, based on their game yesterday that's going to be a pretty tall order.
According to the AP poll: 1. Ohio State
Of course, AP polls don't count in the BCS anymore but that should give us an idea. Out of the top 5, I have only seen OU and LSU play so I don't know much of how OSU, SFU, and BC played this season. Does anyone know what kind of offense SFU uses, whether its a spread offense or more smashmouth? Chris, I know Cincy seems like a weird ranked team, but if you are ranked in the polls, I think you are a somebody. They did spank a good Oregon State team (who just beat Cal yesterday on the road) and also beat a ranked Rutgers who has a pretty good team as well. They may not be great since they lost to Louisville yesterday, but they are still a worthy team and that game with SFU should be a good test for both teams. Also, did you mean that the Bruins and Sun Devils are undefeated in the Pac-10 standings or overall? Both are undefeated in the Pac-10 but only ASU is undefeated overall...UCLA is 4-2.
Well, no one can say college football is boring or that the SEC doesn't provide interesting games to watch. :) Yeah, it sucks LSU lost, but in all honesty we simply didn't play like a #1 team needs to play....particularly our defense who apparently stayed on the bus. At least it was to a formidable opponent who played well. Kudos to Kentucky. I will say that I think the officiating was very biased. Regardless, we should've made and caught passes that were either off the mark or dropped. And that would've made all the difference. Coulda, woulda, shoulda.... Bring on Auburn!!! ;)
One stat I'd be very interested in seeing is this... Of, say, the current top 10 teams, how many ranked opponents have they played this season? That'll factor heavily in my thoughts on who should be ranked where. Tommy
I can see it now: BC vs. USF in the BCS title game. |
