Race report
Donington 350k on Feb 16, 2008
Car: Lamborghini. Class: GT. Start: 9. Finish: 7. Laps: 81.

That was one of the toughest races I've raced in.

I think that's probably the longest race I've ever done and as my intro to this series, over 2 hours of rain at a track like Donny was about as hard as it comes.

The big bumps in the track at Donny in particularly interesting places made the rain even more than just a slippery surface, it really did require massive concentration.

With the rain coming I decided to make up the strategy as it went along waiting to see if the dry would come or what the rain would do. Full tanks to start and drove till I ran out and my tyres were just about driveable but it was close. THen did the same again for the 2nd stint, which left me needing to come in with 20 minutes to go and with it still raining hard I put on soft wets all round knowing they didn't have to last long. The extra grip was immediate on the soft wets and that helped me ease away from the guy behind and catch the guy in front.

Had no idea what pace I'd be compared to everyone else here. I've race lots of GTR2 at SimRacing.org.uk, but I think this is my first GTR2 race at R2P. To finish 7th is quite pleasing after starting 9th as the pace seems reasonably high in this series. Nearly grabbed 6th at the end after catching Joco, but he was driving so wildly that I didn't want to attempt a pass considering we'd been racing for over 2 hours and it was only for 6th position I decided to just wait for him to fall off himself rather than go for a move, which he didn't.

Have to say, overall, I was impressed with the driving standards, very sensible and cautious for such a long race and horrid conditions. I had a couple of offs myself and one where I span out of the chicane causing someone to hit me, sorry about that nothing you could do to avoid me, fortunately a low speed collision so damage didn't take too long to repair in the pits.

No probs about the tap Mark, raced with you a fair bit at SRou so I know what you're about and that really was a very light touch in such horrible conditions, it barely affected me.
