A study in maximising kerb usage! Sudkurve - last turn, double apex right hander with elevation changes - one of the toughest parts of the track to get just right.
After 1.5 hours, the battle over P4 goes down to the "last of the late brakers" into the Sachs Kurve (3 turns to go) for Aaron Jackson (blue) and Andy Graydon. Jackson would prevail.
Rejoining last (P13) after my L13 issues, lapped at least once and 1m22 behind P12. By lap 42 I was P11 when suddenly the engine blew BIG STYLE as I headed towards McLeans! DNF.
Lap 13, and disaster. Graydon and Turner clash under Starkey's Bridge. I end up off onto the grass and in the wall nose first, splitter gone, major damage! Repairs took forever, back on track having lost 2m50secs overall:(
Fairley tried time and again to pass Graydon, especially on the Starkey's Straight. Eventually he made it by on lap 12 into the Hairpin, but Graydon so nearly gets the position back in the next (last) turn!
P5 Graydon leads the chasing pack through T2 heading towards the Craner Curves followed by Fairley; Turner; Jackson & Cardenas. The faster cars were all over me like a rash!
Mid-pack battle between Galloway, Graydon and Alvarez. Another lap about to be completed, La Source hairpin gives the opportunity to close up before the daunting Eau Rouge meets us at the start of another lap!
Graydon passes Alvarez around the outside into the first right hander of Les Combes! Having a great run and tow up Kemmel Straight, some great side by side racing!
Early race, mid pack battle as we approach/go through the 2004 "Bus Stop". Some really good battling going on here between those 3 on the apex - Chris (orange car), Andy and Alberto.
2 laps to go. 1 pit stop all race, now on inters that have done over 30 laps. Rained harder in last 10 minutes - only hope to gain position from last runner was staying out as others stopped. Dimitriu catches me and gets by as we unavoidably touch
Just over 20 minutes left, this is the main straight where there's manmade lighting and in the rain it's still dark! It was tough out there in these conditions.
Lap 9, and I head into T1 about to go wide. Jackson's 360GTC is catching quick. I have to change down to 3rd and brake to keep on track, Aaron can't avoid me a second later and I end up deep in the gravel, losing P6 in class and 20 seconds to boot!
Lap 3 Turn 2 left hander, and Jackson is challenged by Solomatov for P6 as I hug the kerb behind them in P8. No scraps for me this time, but shortly after they would both go wide and give me P6.
I wasn't fast in the 360 GTC at this track, so went for my favourite liveried Porsche RS, EMKA no.61! Here she is in all her glory on a wet track. Still not quick - LOL!
