Interested to know if anyone here is ointo PC wargaming.
As a young lad (!!!) I played Avalon Hill's boardgames (going back to the late 1970's/early 1980's here - and still have lots of said games boxed up!
Have been interested in wargaming ever since. I own quite a few PC related wargames - all from Matrix Games (http://www.matrixgames.com/) - those on my PC at the moment are:-
War in the Pacific Admirals Edition.
War in the East.
Battles from the Bulge.
Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich.
First two are mammoth games, WIP AE I have most experience with.
If anyone is up for a PBEM game for any of the above (doesn't have to be campaign games, short scenarios are fine....we need spare time to race at R2P!!!), then let me know.
I'm getting the urge to play a human for a change - LOL!

Arma 2 is half-off until Monday on Steam...

Not First Person Shooters type of wargames, Lynn - this is strategic / tactical stuff only:)

Still gotcha covered, Arma is quite capable of being a strategy game as well ;)

I used to play AOE, (Age Of Empires) and Civilization. are those the types of games you speak of?

No Steve, these are historical re-enactments of WW2 - at least in terms of equipment etc etc - you are in command of said forces vs AI or human opponent. WIPAE and WITE are very complex games, into the finest detail - eg individual ships/planes. units and their make-up, supply and production are key - yet they are on the grandest scale. Completely different concept to AOE or Civ.
You'd get a better idea by looking at these pages:-

No Steam - direct from the company's (Matrix) online store as a digital download.

What about the Total War series Andy? Medieval Total War, Medieval² Total War, Empire Total War, Napoleon Total War, Shogun Total War, Shogun² Total War. While not 100% in-depth war games, they are capable of massive amounts of units on screen, upwards of 10,000 units.

Why would you be looking for a strategy game, when there is Starcraft already??

I am reluctant to install, yet anther platform to download games. I have Trymedia, Steam and Origin and would have liked to give this a try had they sold them on one of these platforms...they look great.

Some of the games I mention are very complex, not for the faint hearted, so you need to be sure it's something that interests you.
Steve - there is no extra "platform" from which these run. It's just like having a disc in a box, the good old fashioned way - LOL. Save the original purchase download somewhere safe, and the latest patch, and away tou go. Nothing running in the background. The game is on your PC and that's all!

Looks to me like good old fashioned Panzer general, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2H6pnOZCUg
one of my favourite games in the past, only with difference you can play online now?

Michael - Panzer General - ah yes - check this out:-
http://www.matrixgames.com/products/399/details/Panzer.Corps.
This is a new game recently out and it's background is defintiely Panzer General - there are also add on's for Campaign '39; '40 & '41. It's also discounted over Xmas/New Year period too!!
I don't have it myself but it looks a lot less time consuming, less in depth, but reports = just as much fun:)
It's a server based PBEM (Play By E-Mail) game too if you want to play vs a human opponent:):).
