In the past[s5],i seemed to have a decent fps, however, even after a reformat, latest video drivers, the fps just isn't cutting it.I have a P4 3gig processor,1gig ram,x800gto pci-x card. Now i just did some testing.Sitting on pitstraight with 19 cars on track,45fps.I alt tabbed out, checked cpu usage[40%],memory usage [740mb],gpu and environment temps[60degrees],plenty of video memory available.Resolution set at 1024x768.I can't for the life of me figure out why the fps is so low, video card the bottleneck?Any ideas people. With rfactor i get really good fps. |

I turned off AA and got a significant increase in fps. I'm running a crappy old X1300 but I'm able to get good fps at 1280x1024 with all video settings maxed without AA. |

Barry what are you doing in DX7, perhaps the upgraded DX will help, I have had some issues but my usually relates to "heat" causing polygons on screen. With the equip you have you should not have a FPS problem, I get 70- 90 on avg. I might recommend reducing detail for "Other cars" down a notch, and some of the in game effects also. |

How about your shadow settings? That can be a big fps hit. I agree with Gregg, sounds like your system should be able to handle it, just have to figure out what setting is holding you back. |

Download and install Coobits (Nvidia based cards only). It will allow you to over clock (though I dont recommend that) but more importantly you can change your "max frames to render ahead" from it's default of 3 to a 0. This is a huge FPS improvement. 25% in my case |

Go here, read this: Essential .PLR file tweaks for optimum FPS in GTR2 Some very good tips there -- I've got an X800XT, and these tweaks help quite a bit on my system. Make sure you read through the entire thread. |

With many cars around GTR2 usually is cpu limited. I'm pretty sure that's the case here. |

Tim - Coolbits only seems to have worked with previous nvidia drivers. Now they have a ridiculous nvidia control panel that doesn't allow as much manipulation :/ If anyone WAS interested in overclocking (see Tim's disclaimer above) you can use the ATITool. It works for both ATI and nvidia cards. If I knew how to link it I would, but just Google ATI Tool and you can find plenty of places to d/l it. My guess is the DX7 is not up to the task. You never said why you were using it, but I think switching to DX9 will make all the difference as this is what the game was designed for. Good luck. |
