Windows Moviemaker will do OK. It doesn't have endless amount of finesses and effects but it'll do - my own S7 Season review is in post-production stage. :) |

I use the FRAPS tool to record the replay footage to AVI video files (Using F9 key to build each file while viewing replay footage in game), then MovieMaker to combine/edit those into a single & compressed WMV type vid file. FRAPS has free trial or limited versions, or a cost to have unlimited usage. GdLk! |

Fraps is the easiest way to get in game footage. You can even get live driving video because the replay in car looks like its riding on glass. And just use windows movie maker to compress the avi. Its by far the easiest, there are other compression programs that add cool special effects, but you need fraps because it doesnt compress anything while your recording if you use a program that compress it while you record the frame rate would drop to nothing. |

Brian, FRAPS records into uncompressed .avi. You can the use windows movie maker (comes with XP, not sure about vista) to edit it, add music, text etc. Its not very fancy or powerful, but it does the job. When you save it, windows movie maker will allow you to compress it. if you're going to put it on youtube, windows movie maker will be just fine, since youtube reduces the quality some what anyway. If you want to convert the unencrypted .avi file that FRAPS generated to some other format(like to burn to a dvd), there are lots of free programs that will do that for you. Google: Super vid converter, that's a very nice and powerful free program that will convert back and forth between almost all the known media formats.
Everything you see in the video group Finn linked, that was made by either me or Finn, was done with the above FRAPS + Windows movie maker. Finn is using the free version, that's why he has a water mark at the top of his vids. He then stitches the 30sec segments together in WMVmaker. |
