There is really only one way to protect against cheating with RBR. The server checking the physics is a start, but messing with the physics isn't really going to do much. When a rally stage is done, many past leagues have required that the replay file be sent in for verification. If the .rpl file will not play on a steward's machine, then something is wrong with the replay or the driver is cheating.

Maybe we should be required to to save the replays and the stewards review the podium finishers and random samples of the others? It's a suggestion, but of course I defer to R2P. Just be aware that cheating and RBR have been inseparable from day 1 and right now it'd be very easy to do it just using physics checking.

My philosophy on cheat protection is, 'if you need to worry about it then you have the wrong driver pool'.

Cheating is self-regulating at R2P I'd imagine. A cheater might win an event here - so what? There are no prizes. They win a series, and again so what? You're just one of a ton of others who have won series. Earned progress makes sim-racing addictive, so I can't imagine their motivation would persist. And of course, time will have others suspecting something's just not right anyway.

Higher preventive measures only cause a ton of work for somebody, a foul and awkward atmosphere and the high possibility of wrong accusations. Cheaters just brush it off and move on to the next league, accused innocents don't get over it that easily.

Tim, if you even consider that you have the wrong pool of drivers... what then?

I could only imagine the uncomfortable situation of sending in a legit replay, and for some other reason than cheating it wont run on the nominated pc, and then being labelled a "cheater", it would be a hard name to live down.
In my experience, cheaters are always sorted out in the end, not that I have seen any at R2P. More often than not, they dont stick around all that long, because as mentioned before, the attraction of self improvement is lacking, and the novelty soon wears off. They will just find another game to hack.
I remember myself, playing games on the PS2, as soon as I would get online and get some cheats for it the game had a lifespan of maybe a week afterwards. I would try to put off finding codes etc untill I was well over the game in the end, and looking to squeeze a little more life out of it.

Ive been organizing online races for 11 years now. I have never used any form of anti-cheat software, but have caught a few cheaters in my time. They are pretty easy to pick out actually, and once confronted they tend to go away even easier.

I really do not think about it in a day to day basis though. There is no such thing as 100% cheat protection anyway. Race2Play could force everyone to use some 3rd party program that is over complicated and could ruin the *fun*... but none of us would be any more secure from cheaters. Take it from a old "hacker" of sim-racing EXEs... there is no such thing as "cheat protection", but there is such thing as "enjoying your sim-racing time".

Again, if I suspected cheating... well, we dont want that to happen again. Last time it took a millennium for the dust to settle and the dinosaurs became extinct.
