Ok,i said i was getting a new computer.I had a guy getting the parts and putting it together.Acouple of days ago he had it up and running. He had it going for 3hrs while he installed the OS and some updates and then the screen went blank.Narrowed it down to a failed video card, took it back to the store and they won't replace it.Any Aussies that can point me to a source that can help, thks.

On what basis do they refuse to replace it?

Apparently user error was responsible. The guy asked them to check out the card and they said they weren't interested. On searching,i found this company has a terrible reputation concerning not honouring warranties. On their website, they state a one year warranty on vid cards. In their words, too bad,it was in working order when it left the shop.I guess it's time for Consumer affairs or solicitor.

Well if they don't clearly state why they refuse to replace it, keep pressuring them.

Seeing as tho you have done nothing but install the OS it seems highly unlikely to be user error.
May I ask what store? does it start with a "U"??

No Chris,it is Gamedude, never buy from them.If you do a search on them, there is nothing positive.

I know the site.
Like Ari said, if they wont give you an answer on the exact reason why, and how they came to that conclusion, then they dont have a leg to stand on.
A few consumer affairs threats should persuade them. A call to A current affair, tell them to expect a visit from Ray Martin, might also help.
I just found that review site, sounds like they have plenty of history.
I personally use "u-mart" online. I have bought quite a few parts off them, and they are only too happy to help. I cant ever say I have had a warranty claim with them tho, and their prices seem the same if not better than the GameDud's. Prob a bit late now, but might come in useful in the future.

Well,it does seem like i might be screwed on the video card replacement.I have done quite a bit of searching the forums with regards to this company and while there are a lot of complaints,no one seems to have any success in getting faulty parts replaced.I did find that apparently on the invoice,is a clause stating that all parts must be installed by a qualified technician. So for now,i will get the new 4870 card,so i can get this up and running. Most likely,i have seen $500AU down the drain. If i get a solicitor involved,i could possibly spend a lot more money for no gain, however,i will continue to investigate and most likely bring in consumer affairs.

Ongoing new computer saga. This guy did a temporory fix on the card and 3dmark06 returned a score of over 13,000.He said he did not like to send me a repaired card and was going to get another one.Apparently he got a new one from some friend and on bootup it had graphics corruption and kept rebooting.I'm starting to think about dollars here now.He returned the card to find out the guy had bought it from, you guessed it, Gamedude.I called him this morning and he was going to get either the 9800gtx2 or the 280.Now this guy is a battler and is currently out of pocket about $1,000 and i too am counting the dollars even tho he said he doesn't want any money as it's his problem.I didn't think this was fair and called him back to tell him i'm quite prepared to take the repaired card and if it does fail again,i will just have to order a different card and he can then sell the other one when it is exchanged, problem solved, crosses fingers. In the meantime he had repaired the card permanently and 3d mark06 now reports over 16,000.

If you paid my a credit card, call your CC company. They will usually take the charge off if you have some supporting documentation (receipt, warranty, etc).
