Interesting, we can really see the new optional turns now. Those will slow things down at the two most risky points on the track, especially the optional west bend, which I think is where all the big concerns were for track day style events. That will get cars braking in a straight line down the hill. I assume they'll make enough room for runoff at the start of that turn...

Also, they can clearly preserve the original configuration with those changes. Good stuff. Can't wait to see it first-hand in July.

Both the uphill and west bend look a lot slower with the optional config. The drivers right on the uphill and downhill were the 2 turns that swallowed up the most cars since I've been driving LRP. They will be adding paved runoff for the downhill. The downhill will be safer just by virtue of less speed that can be attained when coming out of optional west bend slower.

I'll have to wait till August 13th to see it, but at least I'll be driving on it. I still don't know which configuration SCDA will be using.

I hope they set up a nice hillside for viewing around the optional West Bend. There will be plenty of action through there. I imagine it was designed more or less for the faster series that run there. I didnt realize that there was that much dry land alongside the No Name straight. It is always so wet and swampy over there. But they actually cut into the woods about 200 feet or so for a new turn after the esses. I bet half of my photos from the ALMS event will be of the new track layout. I still say that new asphalt and the Audi R10's torque is going to create some issues during the event.
