R2P Questions and Answers
Join Timed Out

Posted by Jens Nilsson at 01:05 PM on Jun 30, 2008 Post #1

Hi!
This is my first time here at R2P and of course I got into trouble right away. I tried to log on to the Rfactor practice-server and entered the password (the general password I found at my page) but then nothing happened until I got a Join Timed Out-message. I tried a lot of times with the same result. I found out that every time I try to log in to a password protected server I got that error message. I have no problem to connect to a game that don't require password.

Any ideas of how I can solve this problem? I realy want to get going with the racing :)

in multiplayer options have you set your connection right? If you haven't set your connection it will be setup as dial up and won't connect if the server is across continent :) If not try restarting rFactor/internet.

I have my connection set to LAN so that should be ok. I also tried restarting rFactor/Internet/Firewall/Computer alot of times before I wrote the first post.

I just can't understand why it's ok to connect to servers without password protection. That the kind of servers I was looking forward to not have to race on any more :(

First thing I always check is if the CapsLock is enabled on your keyboard. Sounds dumb, but hey, you never know.

I wish it would have been that easy :)

There is this line in your Multiplayer.ini file in your XYZ:\rFactor\UserData\blablabla folder:

Net Join Timeout="150.00000" // How long to wait (without a response) before a game join will be considered a failure

Try increasing that number to say 500.

Are you sure your firewall or antispyware such as Peerguardian is not cutting you off?

You can also get that if the server has gone to race. But, most likely you are trying to join a server that has already set the password to the event password and you are still trying to join with the default password. The event password is normally set the night before or morning of an event...sometimes a whole day before. Try it again if you have everything setup right.

Today I got it to work. I think the problem was like Sam Moss suggested in post #2 that the connection was wrong. Despite the fact that I had set the correct connection in rFactor the multiplayer.ini file still had it as i had a dial up connection.

Or maybe it was just Vista that played a cruel joke on me :)

Thanks all for your tips and suggestions
